Hmmmm...... I think this promo is kind of a let down; don't get me wrong, it's great that there is one, but I think that some people might look for other teams to fold for that has more short term incentives. Folding year round is expensive; not only from a power cost point of view but also from potential hardware failure (I had an Antec PSU die on me). And after your first million you only get 30 evga bucks for each subsequent million until 3m. Not very much incentive to keep on folding.

Well this certainly is annoying. My current ppd maxes out around 200K per month. Do I want to spend the extra dough for a new GPU just for an extra 60 EVGA bucks? Something tells me that I'm gonna cave...

I noticed a typo and sent an email: Under the how it works section. The 250,000 line should say 10 EVGA Bucks. Hopefully more giveaways are in the works. I could use an upgrade :)

i think that the promotion is very fair and gives people more incentive to fold for the whole year instead of just for a month or two until they had their million points. and this will also help stabilize our teams ppd throughout the year

mflanaga Yes! I like the new promo. Discourages those who only come here for the bucks then scoot back to their other team.. if they have another team at all! Good job EVGA, very fair promotion. Isn't the point of the Evga bucks to get more people folding? I can see with your folding rig that getting the numbers you need to get the bucks will be easy. But for the people that don't have that powerful of a folding rig or can't afford to upgrade will just be another reason to make them stop. Fairweather folder or not, it's still points for EVGA and helps humanity. Evga bucks are good incentive to get more people on board. I'm not going to lie, I folded for the bucks. Why? Because I want to put together an different rig; then I would relegate my current rig, which has 4 double wide slots available, to folding. Now I'm not so sure I'm going to do that. Not to mention , I need more of an incentive to keep my rigs going in the summer time. It makes my computer room 90*F+, if I'm going to sweat for a noble cause, I'd sure like some sort of good incentives to make it worthwhile (in my mind). The last promo I thought was fair, the people with weak rigs would still have a chance. Now they'll be able to earn ..... a whopping 60 evga bucks if they fold all year. Hardly seems worth it. taniquetil Well this certainly is annoying. My current ppd maxes out around 200K per month. Do I want to spend the extra dough for a new GPU just for an extra 60 EVGA bucks? Something tells me that I'm gonna cave... This is exactly what I'm referring to. Once you assign a value to something, especially if the last promo was better, people are going to fail to see the incentive of folding. Even though they probably started out doing it for free. darkinfero we all do I'm already thinking about another video card just in case. I can do about 20-25,000 ppd depending on the work unit But my current ppd is at 8,800 Some people aren't in the position to purchase a new GPU just to fold on. That's why I thought the last promo was fair, it would help the less priveleged attain better gear that they would most likely use to fold anyway. I think that the guys with the super powerful folding rigs are kind of messing it up for the rest of the people that aren't in the position to compete with them. I'll fold throughout the cold months, as my folding rigs serve double duty as space heaters, but once summer rolls around they're off.

Not what I expected but still a good offer. I had hoped that instead Evga would just raise the points to something like 5 million for the $100 . This spreading it across 1 year is kinda tedious. I have no doubt I'll make the max bucks ,but waiting a year to cash them in is a major buzzkill. Either way, I wont stop folding for 111065 Default or death !

If we hit either milestone, do we have to redeem before the 1st of the next month, or could we request later on (ie your point totals for Mar, April, May are listed and each one has button you can click redeem for)?

Do not complain about this promotion or down it at all. EVGA does not have to do this and we are lucky that they do. Fairness blah blah blah...A single 9600GT can get the 60 bucks a year with this promotion add a dual core to that and you don't even have to fold all month long for the100k. We might lose some but that is ok as they are obviously not dedicated to the cause and only the $. We will gain more small folders which is what we need, more people folding regardless of team. Don't knock on something that this wonderful company decides to do, it is not about the points or the bucks, it is about the WU and cures. The points and teams just add some friendly fun and competition. If you don't like the promotion go fold for another team that offers nothing in return but satisfaction of folding, but then if that is why you leave the team satisfaction has nothing to do with it. I understand some people can not afford to fold during high/low temperature seasons or it is just too hot in the summer. That is beside the point.

They're still giving evga points for the people that can't reach that amount. I have to disagree with you about fairweather folders not helping the cause. Each WU's donated, whether it be by incentive or not, helps the cause. So if you have a bunch of people folding 1,000,000 points in a year, depending on what's used, can be 2500 WU's that would not have been done otherwise. That helps, no matter the reason behind it. But think about how many points that is. If you have 1,000 people adding 1m points that's 1,000,000,000 points. Like I said before, fairweather folders or not it's still a bunch of points added to EVGA. And it's that many more WU's done for Stanford and that furthers science and humanity.

Reaching 60 bucks is so easy even now and think about the new generation cards and the GPU3 that's on the way! I don't know what people were expecting... EVGA was apparently bothered by all those people stopping at 1 million and those who just stopped by to grab the bucks and left off afterwards. I'd be bothered as well, wouldn't you? This way, EVGA wants to reward only those who care enough to stay year long. There may still be some who can take the hassle to switch back-and-forth each month to their teams where they really belong, and it's OK; now there is some hassle. I love the promotion as it is and I'd like to send my thanks to Shane, Kyle and all others who's backing it at EVGA! Thanks guys! PS: Shane, there are some typo's at the http://www.evga.com/folding/promo.asp site: 1) "total of 60 EVGA bucks for 1,000,000 points" should read "total of 60 EVGA bucks for 1,200,000 points" 2) In the box, "http://www.evgadev.com/evgabucks/" should be "http://www.evga.com/evgabucks/"

I like it!! Thanks evga! I know some people are mad that their system can't handle it, but you have to realize a few things. With computers getting faster, it only makes sense to bump the folding up too. Its not meant to be easy. With GPU3, the new i7, the dual cpu mobo, and fermi just about to come out, Can you blame them for upping it? My i7 and 2 260's can put out almost a million points a month. If I didn't game as much, it would be around 1.1 million. So it should be doable with a lot of the older systems. If not, this might be the time to start thinking about upgrading. Hopefully CC doesn't spill into May too much so we can go back to our names after the challenge and get our bucks for the month. That just means we have 2 challenges in May now It shouldn't be a problem..... Thanks again evga. You don't have to have a promo like this, but you do. I'm very grateful for that. Keep up the good work everyone!!!

EVGAWeb_ShaneD tuaamin13 Question: How will we be redeeming this year? Snapshot at first of month, then snapshots every night like the system does now? If we hit either milestone, do we have to redeem before the 1st of the next month, or could we request later on (ie your point totals for Mar, April, May are listed and each one has button you can click redeem for)? You will have all year to redeem your points. It will work similar to how Year 2 works now, but there will be a list of each month and how many points you earned in that month. Awesome. I like it. It's going to be nice to have a steady stream of EVGA bucks.
