The discussion of what this promo may or may not mean for the team etc. does not effect what will actually happen. So I don't know why there can't be discourse and speculation without people saying that we should all be humbly, eternally grateful to EVGA and nothing less. For the record I'm in Australia and can't even use the bucks. I fold for the right reasons (to contribute to a good cause) so far as I perceive it as an efficient application of my resources. Which for me, is if there is some compensation. So I do appreciate that there is compensation which allows me to contribute. I realised a very long time ago that the electricity was costing more, so that was never the point. An interesting possibility might have been to have the points rewarded on a sliding scale that doesn't end. 120 points for 3 million, a further 120 points for 10 million, an additional 120 points for 30 million.... and so on. I could see that stealing folders from other teams by the truck load.

That would be pointless, alot of the high end folders (even in the top 100 of the team) can't make 10 million, let alone 30 million in 1 year, and it wouldn't be a good idea for it to be never ending anyway as evga staff has no idea what the outcome would be on future years. They are basing the promotion changes off the results they get from the previous year just to make the team work harder.

I like the goal of keeping folks going and going - the more involved the more likely they will fold as a donation for a good cause instead of for bucks. Bucks are great and a great way for the company to help Stanford. Looks like it is working well - nicely done!

OK, it is not perfect and does not, cannot possibly suite everyone's situation as has been stated earlier in this thread. So please everyone lets appreciate what we do have and move on. You know, after reading and posting on rcranfields's thread, all anyone would need is 2 x 9800 GT's at $100 new each to make the $10 EVGA bucks each month, so that is not unreasonable at all. Heck one GTX 285 will get the PPD you need to earn the full rewards and those can be had for around $250 used. So no more excuses.

heydabopI don't see why you couldn't. I plan on keeping one of my GTS 250's and folding it alongside a GTX 480 or 470 when I get one. Well, because it would require a full year of folding to get the full $120 credit. The best time to buy a completely new architecture/high-end card is right as it comes out, otherwise if you wait 6+ months you are much better off waiting a few more for revised, cheaper, and likely cooler running parts to come out. Just look at the 280 vs 285, 260 vs Core 216, or 9800GTX -> 9800GTX+ -> GTX 250 etc... time it right you could even sell your old high-end card for most of what you paid and upgrade to the new one at only a little expense. It is fortunate for EVGA that AMD cards don't fold well, otherwise I'd just sit back and see what these 32-28nm Northern Island GPU's are about that I keep hearing about... if NVIDIA can't keep the prices down on their Fermi cards then I might just do that anyway. What I wish I could do was apply the full $220 credit now to EVGA's dual-socket board and throw two Xeon X5650 hex-cores into it.... I'm crossing my fingers those will end up cheaper than the 980X will be. I'd rather fold on the CPU than the GPU anyway as it's more fun.

Shane, there's no doubt that earning the full $120 should take significant work. On the other hand, you've taken away the incentives for someone who can't fold over 100K points per month. Someone who wants the $120 and can fold 10K ppd or more is going to get it. If they're one of the people who can turn out two to three times that much, then they might fold a few days to meet their goal and shut down for the month. On the other hand, if it takes me between two and three months to put up 100K points, it's still 100K points. We used to fold when Stanford's program first started, but we got away from it for a while until a few months ago when I came across the EVGA promo and fired it back up. Will I keep folding? Yes, we believe in the program. However, there's no real reason to continue associating our folding with the EVGA team at this point. I do hope you re-think your promo and allow for some small incentives to those who can't make your new radically increased numbers. Radically increased? For someone who was making a million last year, they only need to triple their output. If you were putting up 500K a year for $50, then you only need to do a little more than twice that for $60 this year. Those increases are significant, but not radical. Well, for someone who was only making the lowest level of incentive, they have to increase their folding by as much as a factor of ten in order to qualify for anything at all. That's pretty radical for anyone who hasn't invested in a significant hardware upgrade. I doubt that anyone whose output amounted to under a 500K points a year was abusing the system. Why is it worth it for EVGA to consider this? Well, when I get around to upgrading the system, wouldn't you like those folding points to be part of the EVGA team? I realize that some members don't care about those points since they can put that up in a day or two. The elitist attitude of the people with the hottest hardware is downright offensive and unfriendly. Obviously, it's not about "folding for the money" with the hardware I'm currently running. That doesn't mean it isn't nice to get a little incentive here and there, though. It was great that EVGA showed appreciation for that last year, and unfortunate that it has come to an end.

KMoore4318 I like the new Promo, but would be willing to bet it hits the Chimp Chalange hard. Not if people are smart about it, but they will not be. The Chimp Challenge only last about a week for us if we get a good number of people, so unless a hypothetical person's rig can only produce barely over 100k or 250k/month than they are only losing out on 5 bucks. Not a big deal IMO for having fun and SUPPORTING our TEAM. Heck, maybe even EVGA can calculate a person's ppd average and add it into the days for when they participate in the CC. Everyone who does participate in it folds 100% to the CC and will make it obvious who is helping and who is not. This way even the people who can only make the minimum do not lose out on the 5 bucks.

EVGA should keep last years promo intact for the users that can't produce the 100k+ PPD a month. If they can make a million points within the folding year then at least they still get 100 EVGA bucks Big folders get an additional 20

4 months at 250k=1 million so you basically tripled the requirement to get the money. I think that's cool but you should have some lower incentives for people that fold for the entire year but can never get to 100k a month or introduce a 50k a month incentive for $2.50 or something. Or change it to 3million points=120 1.2million=60 idk this really screws over the little guy, I even have to change what I'm doing now. I wish those new fermi's were out I wouldn't have to worry then, or could this point system have been made in preparation of the new fermis?

I´d say yes. Looking back one year: We had 260s, 280s, 285s, the 9 and 8 series with much slower wu (the slow 511ers if anybody remembers them, great for heating your room ) and a comparetivly slow win smp client. What do we have now? 295s and relatively fast work units, -bigadv a cpu smp client with bonuses and fermi just around the corner. Not to forget the upcoming smp2 and gpu3 clients, whatever they bring

The only chink in that rationale is that a lot of people cannot afford the newly released hardware. I myself have bought all but two of my cards used because there is no way I could afford the new stuff. The only reason I have 285's and 295's is because of the upcoming fermi release and the bad economy, people either were or had to dump there stuff for one of the two reasons.

I honestly do not understand what all the crying is over... the program is great! once a month evga rewards the folders. and to boot evga is giving the chimp challenge some thought :) 1. x58 3xsli LE or micro 2. i7 920 3. 3 gigs of memory 4. ubuntu 64 bit 5. mx220 so ya can see 6. 20 gig hd 7. psu of 550 w and thats it. enough for a bigadv which if oc'd to 4.2 mem @2000 Mhz will produce a TPF of 28:00 or less :) thats 61,000 to 65,000 every 1.8 - 2.0 days which gives you no less than 30,000 ppd x 30 days in a month which is a monthly average of 900,000 evga ony requires 250,000: 10 EVGA Bucks 100,000: 5 EVGA Bucks this is not that hard, technology changes. might be time for an upgrade

Just come back from holidays and resume folding. It's time consuming to read the whole thread!! The new incentive scheme is great! What we have discussed throughout the last few months is how to keep folders in our team not to stop folding after exceeding 1M. If it is true that many folders stopped folding after exceeding 1M, most of our folders have excess capacity. Obviously, this new scheme can squeeze more or all out.
