19 August,  Well I finally figure out how to get the folding to run without locking up my rig and am Happy to join Team 111065.

i7-4790K with 2 EVGA Titan X SC, under water, Windows 10 64b - Pro, 150Mbs cable ISP

Both of the EVGA Titan X SC are currently flashed to the cyclops3.rom bios

My Signature has the details

I've been running this afternoon after going "stock - Auto" in my BIOS  - Asus  Z97-WS, BIOS - 2704 (latest)

PPD bounces around 275K +/- 20K ----- Is this as bad as I think it is ?

Folding Power is set to Full  (now it is, started at Medium for about 3 or 4 hours)

CPU is off / removed from folding slots

SLI is OFF and  G-sync feature disabled

Does my 4k monitory hurt my PPD ?

What steps or links to helpful information, will get my PC as productive as possible ?

So, I'd rather gain from the knowledge of the giants in folding; than, read every single post/ article and try to reinvent the wheel.

The generosity of your time and wisdom, to help me, help Team 111065, would be most appreciated

A Maxwell Titan should be getting 500k PPD at least on each card, but you have to fold 24/7 to see that.  Also you don't have monitor GPU-Z or have the FaH viewer open.

My EVGA GTX 980 Ti gets 500k to over 700k depending on WU's and only runs at 1313 on the core.  It's in my daily rig and I need stability for watching YouTube.  It used to fold at 1491 when it was in a dedicated rig.

That is where my sad story and questions begin

I can stop folding, go through the MB BIOS and tweak it beyond the vanilla "Auto everything" settings.

@ 4.9 on the CPU Folding would hard lock   Can't get any more stock than default BIOS

Correct http://fah-web2.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&username=CoolGTX then this is you.
It was the Space in the User Name that caused it. Sorry but at least we know now.

What is the meaning of BD?

If you want Cool_GTX best to create it now before your Credits or Point build up.

Did you get a Passkey yet?

If not here is the link http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py
Change your USER Name Before you do
http://folding.stanford.edu/home/faq/faq-passkey/

What is the purpose of a passkey?

A passkey uniquely identifies you as an individual donor and is associated with results that you have completed.  Previously we did not have unique identifiers in Folding@home (usernames for example can be shared by many people).  One main benefit of passkeys is that if someone cheats, we will not need to zero out the points of everyone with that username — only the offending party and those without passkeys.
Perhaps more interestingly, we have introduced a new Quick Return Bonus (QRB) points program, which is tied to passkeys.  To earn this bonus, you must use a passkey.
Finally, the existence of passkeys opens up future possibility of displaying your individual credit and other information, rather than just by username, so use the same passkey for all clients.

Forgot to add that you will need to complete a number of Tasks before you start getting Quick Return Bonus (QRB) then you will get around 900k to 1200k PPD as stated above.

Yes I did get the passkey.  I signed in several days ago - hope I entered it correctly.  Would have started Folding sooner -- but Hard lock were killing me, when I tried.

(Edit Passkey is sorted 20 Aug)

Do I change my EVGA ID (remove space) might be easier- No?

Did you update your Profile with CoolGTX under EVGA Folding Name
http://www.evga.com/community/myProfile.asp
* To participate in the EVGA Bucks Folding@Home Promotion, your login must match your folding@home name.
But I have read Threads that say I is not always the case.

You could email the webmaster@evga.com and ask as it was due to a Space.
Normally a Space is not allowed in User Names and never in a Password.

Re: Folding advice for the new minnow in your pond. I'm not impressed with my PPD ~275K - 2016/08/19 20:37:18 (permalink)
Was removing CPU from the "Folding Slots" a mistake ?  When trying to Stop CPU folding I ended up deleting the CPU

Now I just have the two GPU as 01 & 02

default BIOS loaded in MB: fastest way to Remove my OC and  the hard locks when trying to Fold.

What BIOS setting matter most for Folding ? - would explain this really slow Folding on a pair of TitanX SC

[EDIT -- Asus - in their infinite wisdom, default BIOS settings, turned off hyper threading.
So, hyper is now On, XMP for RAM is on]  Passkey sorted -- PPD estimate now over 1M

My OP includes GPUZ pics -- Titans look like they are working hard mostly

GPU load 80 - high 90

GPU Core & Memory MHz look good ?

Memory controller load Only 30% ?

Memory used seems very low

Bus Interface of 13% -- no bottleneck with that.

Both of the EVGA Titan X SC are currently flashed to the cyclops3.rom bios

I thought I remember reading - Not to OC the GPU when folding -- is this correct

I run my cards with some overclock.
GTX980Ti 1450
GTX970   1475
GTX960    1500

Folding uses very little memory, GPU loat at 80-90% looks about right.
If you start to get errors and the WU stops before 100% and reloads a new WU you have to back down the O/C
The full PPD production does not always show at first, let them run a half hour to a hour and see what they are doing.

No, removing the CPU was not a bad idea. Some folders will CPU fold as well. In my opinion CPU folding is not worth the power to run the projects. Of course if you do, it will help your PPD a little bit. I'm glad you have joined us to fold, I assumed you already were folding.....I know, I know. :P Welcome to your new addiction, err I mean the fold. LOL!!

Run your 10 WU for the QR bonus to come into play, that may be the difference you are seeing. As far as OC, you can ,and it will help. But you have to be careful and make sure it is stable, otherwise you will be failing WU's and wasting folding cycles. Some work Units are more critical of OC's. You will also find out all WU's are not created equal, some will reward you with good PPD, some not. I'm glad to see you are up and folding at least.

But you have to be careful and make sure it is stable, otherwise you will be failing WU's and wasting folding cycles. Some work Units are more critical of OC's. You will also find out all WU's are not created equal, some will reward you with good PPD, some not. I'm glad to see you are up and folding at least.

 Thanks notfordman

I'm up to 15 WU - now

Looking much better this morning after some BIOS tweaks on the MB

PPD is now estimated 1,075,000 and climbing - go go go go

Asus - in their infinite wisdom, default BIOS settings, turned off hyper threading.

So, hyper is now On, XMP for RAM is on, pushed the fans up for improved cooling.

Also, Sorted out the Passkey

Room is 25 C (at night), GPUs 40 C, CPUs < 60 C after running all night, with small interruption to tweak the MB's BIOS.

Folding may accelerate my plan to add a dedicated Mitsubishi ductless heat pump, to my PC hideout above my garage

Thank you one and All for your support

Sorted out the Passkey

First Passkey was issued to Cool_GTX, but my Fold ID was CoolGTX

So, I got a new Passkey for CoolGTX, entered it - looks like it took

PPD is now estimated 1,075,000 and climbing -- After MB tweak of BIOS (hyper threading & XMP RAM)

Heading to 160K points earned

ya, that is the difference in what a passkey will do for you in terms of PPD.

Between the hyper threading, XMP the RAM (rest of BIOS still default Auto) & Passkey sorted --

I no longer have the to wear the 275 PPD "cone of shame"

Moving up from last place in the Team standings, feels good

I am folding with two Titan X Hydro Coppers on a Windows 7 rig and while at home game on it most of the day while it is folding.
It sure gets the job done, one other thing you can do to help a little on points is set up flags.
In FAH Advance Control click on configure, click on 1 gpu at the bottom of the page click on add under name type next-unit-percentage under value type 100 then click OK.
Then do the same for 2 gpu this will help with the loss of points while your next work unit is waiting to start.

Happy BD young whipper snapper.
My small suggestion would be to dump the web interface and use the advanced view. Click the folding icon in the taskbar and click advanced.

Just the type of wisdom I'm looking for - how to tweak more power out of this currently dedicated Folder.

Task completed
