Just finished building my new rig and once enabling SLI it black screens.

MB: Asus P9X79 Pro
CPU: 3930k
PSU: AX1200 (Not new I used it to power my SLI'd 480's)
GPU: eVGA 680 Superclocked Signature 2 (x2)
OS: Windows 7 (64 Bit)
What I've tried so far.

Switched 3 different SLI Bridges (One I was using just today before the build)
Switched Card on the Mother Board.
Switched power cables between them.

From what I can tell both cards work (when I take one out at a time they have a picture.)

Is it the mother board pci slot? Or what else can I do? Is it driver related? I installed the 314? Something whatever is newest under eVGA's drivers.

Thanks for any an all help!

Update: I think it's software related. So going to mess with drivers and some OS settings.

Try the 310.70 drivers. I have similar problems with the latest WHQL.

Thanks for the input! I plan to here shortly! (Rather a hassle to get the pc to boot into windows without a black screen as you have to remove the SLI bridge.)

But you too make me believe it's purely software not hardware.

I have the same board and the card's will only work in slot 1 for 1 card, Slot 1,5 for 2x SLi and Slot's 1,3,5 for 3x Sli.
Also look in the bios and make shure they are seen.

Yes that's done correctly, Both blue PCI-E's are filled. (x16 / 2 for bandwidth)

I have a quick question, have you tried your monitor on every display port available? I don't see anyone recommending this, and I didn't see you say that you did it.

    My Laptop (GE63VR-7RF):
    -7700HQ.
    -16GB RAM.
    -GTX 1070.
    -128GB SSD.
    -1X 1TB 7200 spinny drive.

Did you try DVI ports as well? I know this sounds so silly but sometimes it's just the basics lolz.

My TV I use (Panasonic 42" LED 120Hz) doesn't have support for a DVI.

I'll try one of my smaller monitors (20") with a DVI port shortly.

Can you post a screenshot? There are some Intel drivers that might need to be installed.

Thank you, I'm on the first intel link, As I've got it to search and it's found a few things. However I don't see a download button. >.< So I'll have to figure out how to get the drivers it found to install.

No reason to post a screen shot, As I ran the drivers from the mother board cd and looks to be it fixed all that.  I'm assuming they're up to date! Since only one driver had a download link.

i would try to update the bios to latest, and all mobo drivers as well!
if you got too many devices installed, i would clean all you don't need(i use regcleaner for progs and drivesweeper for drivers)...or maybe a fresh setup of Win!!! it never hurt!!
    both cards work fine separately?
latest drivers are the best so far for mine 2x680...
i would try to fix the problem with those!!
ps: remove also all asus tweaker progs that you have!!(specially the one for GPU....don't remember the name... GPU boost maybe??)

This is a fresh install just built the rig tonight.

I tried using my system on my older monitor, VIA DVI. It worked fine even when enabling sli..

But still wont work on my tv, Through hdmi? I even changed the hdmi cord? Any idea's about that?

HDMI works fine through one card but once I enable SLI it blacks my screen.

I also reset my tv to factory settings, Still noting. :(

Just tried lowering the rez to 1280, Before enabling SLI. Still black screen. **** is the problem? It's not hardware does the 680's not do sli in hdmi?

UGH I can't even find anything online about this. What could I do?

So I did get SLI to work on the tv using a DVI to VGA cord since that tv doesn't support dvi. But my max res is only 1600 x 1024 lol!
I also called eVGA support but they didn't know either said it should work fine but it does not.

Expand the field with the newer driver at Intel.

If you have AI Suite installed you might want to uninstall it. AI Suite caused me a lot of issues when I had as ASUS motherboard. You should update the motherboard's BIOS to the latest version also. Sorry I didn't get back sooner but it was after midnight here in Philadelphia.

but are you sure that then the Desktop doesn't come back?
'cause it goes black also to me but then it goes fine...
try to use the DVI cable and select which screen must be primary and secondary from the nvidia panel...
    if you haven't already!

    Thank you for the feedback!

I've been using my smaller 20' monitor and things seem to work fine.

As for waiting on the screen on my TV to come back it never happens. It sits there black. Until the tv shuts off after 3 minutes of no signal.

Like I was saying; This 20 inch monitor is hooked up to DVI. An works fine thus far. So I will try getting a DVI to HDMI cable for the TV. Just seems odd HDMI to HDMI wont work.

I did get SLI to work using my TV (HDMI to HDMI) buy using my second video card. But the screen doesn't show the mother board post or anything. lol It's a black screen till windows starts. Also some of my games when launched just takes me to a black screen. So that wont work.

I'll try updating my bios too but I really don't think that's the issue when it works fine using DVI.

I never tried my TV with SLI but it did work fine using HDMI and a single GTX 680. I had to RMA a 680 and a replacement should arrive Monday. I will try my TV with SLI and let you know if I have any problems.

    Update:

I now have my TV connected with a HDMI to DVI cable, Which thus far IS allowing me to run SLI. (314.07 Drivers)

My next problem is games. Many of my games I launch just black screen still I alt-tab to close them. I'm assuming it's settings someplace? Same goes for Battlefield 3. Launching that I get a small window. Changing the settings to 1920 / 1080 keeps it windowed. Even with full screen checked.

I've also tried hitting ALT+Enter and the whole screen around the windows box will blink black like it's trying to go full screen but doesn't.

Thanks for all the idea's and help guys. It's came in handy!

    In Reply to Zuh.

I ran both my 480's in SLI via HDMI to I think the 480's had mini HDMI. Worked fine for all the time I had them with this same TV. I guess it's just something weird with these 680's and running HDMI to HDMI.

Like I said, I did manage to get things working in SLI with the 680's on the newest drivers using a HDMI to HDMI cable. Just having issues with games now. Most just black screening when launched others like battlefield not able to go full screen.

Well... Your TV could be not set to 1080p... Go in Nvidia control panel under "Change resolution" and see what it's set at... I'm completely lost but nobody else is commenting so we might as well try something lol.

    Re:Black Screen SLI 680s 2013/03/01 14:54:24 (permalink)
    It's currently set to 1080p, 1920 x 1080 (Refresh rate 59Hz) Color depth 32 bit.

It's got to be settings of some sort someplace!

Seems none of my games even show that I can support a higher rez then 1024 x 768. Even when I select it and apply it takes my screen black lol and makes me have to reboot as nothing ever comes back.

UPDATE: I installed Nvidia Experience. To see what it would optimize my games as, An it says optimal res is 1024 by 768. So how do I get my computer to understand that it's suppose to be 1920 x 1080? In the nvidia control panel it's set to 1920 x 1080? But games wont work for it?

UPDATE2: I downloaded DriverCleaner, Booted into safe mode, Ran it. Restarted into safe mood installed drivers. Came back to windows and still when I launch a game if the rez isn't low low low it black screens my computer.

Going to reformat AGAIN and see where I can get with that.

If this is a fresh install of Windows there are some DX files missing by design. You should run the DX update to fill in the missing versions.

Good call man thanks for that.

Will install that once Windows get's done updating fully.

    OK New problem lol!!

I got SLI to enable, It works. Problem is it switches which DVI port is active.... So it'll go from one DVI port then I'll reboot and it'll switch to using the other dvi port?? So random!! How do I disable one or make one always active?

UPDATE: Ok so what it's doing is when I restart, I see it post, And load windows (IE: The logo) But when it hits the password page or desk etc it goes black UNTIL I unhook the DVI cord and plug it back in? It's like it's losing the signal every restart.

    Re:Black Screen SLI 680s 2013/03/03 15:10:17 (permalink)
Just wanted to update everyone but also bump the thread. Since the original problem I came here with has been fixed. So to give some advice to anyone else that may run into this same issue.

    This is what I've done;

    1. Don't use HDMI to HDMI when you're going to SLI. (It doesn't work! A buddy of mine also told me that where he works they can't use sli when running HDMI to HDMI. Keep in mind I'm NOT saying it can't work just saying for myself and my buddy at his work place it can't be done.) So this is where I'd first start changing things if you run into the same problem. I went and bought a cheap (20$) DVI to HDMI cable.

    2. Switch around the DVI ports on your GPU! (For me it was rather odd. The top DVI port on my first 680 worked fine, Then en-abling SLI I black screened again. Making the bottom DVI port active. Prolly some common sense thing of you're suppose to use the bottom one for SLI, I don't know but something anyone could over look or try!)

    3. Resolution! Make sure your computer in the control panel & NVidia control panel shows the correct monitor you have hooked up. So you can get the correct resolutions you're aiming for. Somehow though mine did have the correct monitor or in my case TV showing. It said max Resolution was 1024x768.

To fix this I had to completely reformat the OS again. I tried downloading Driver sweeper booting into safe mode and completely removing things but still it didn't work. Reformatting did.

Anyway thank you to everyone in this thread for all the help and idea's. I hope the way I found to fix mine can help anyone else in the future.

My only issue now is as I said; I can see on screen my PC post, And load the windows screen but when I get to the login screen my tv blacks out until I unhook the DVI cable and plug it back in.
But I'm heading to the NVidia forums to seek help for that!
