Finished product:

Hello, I would like to share with you my first attempt at case moding.

I am starting a new project to transform a Thermaltake Armor Jr case. The mods I will be doing include converting the case to accept bottom mounted power supply, inverting the motherboard tray, and incorporating a top exhaust with either a 140mm or 120mm fans.
Here are old picture of the case in its original configuration and some with the inside painted black.

I disassembled the case and tested to see if the inverted motherboard idea would work.

I removed most of the pop rivets and will be replacing them with screws so that if I ever wanted to take the case apart again it will be easier.

Here is the test fit.

I will be removing the plexy with the Thermaltake logo and mesh vent and installing a new plaxi window without any ventilation.

Here is some of the work on the front panel.

Front Panel almost finished.

That is it for now. I will be updating again with the finished top and bottom panels.

Let me know what you think of my progress.

Thanks for looking.

Wow, very imaginative - didn't know where you were headed until I saw those last 2 pics of the front panel.

The blue is a nice touch!

Gave you a Plus 1...

Update: pics of the top and bottom panel.
Disregard the black frame I have not painted the frame yet.
For the top fan mounts I will paint the frame white and the mesh blue to match the front panel.

I may paint the case feet blue to match.

Thanks for the feedback. I finished stripping the black paint from the frame. The stripping process was a lot easier then I thought it would be. I will post some additional picks of the progress soon.

Last night I stripped off the black paint from the frame components. I was going to sand everything down to bare metal, but when I was at the store I found a chemical stripper. Worked like a charm and did not take much time at all. Spray it on wait 30 minutes and remove. I think the results turned out good. It did leave a residue on the metal but a little sanding with 1000 grit seams to remove it well.

I am thinking of sticking to the white/blue /silver color scheme. reminds me of R2D2.

Nice. Im thinking of putting the PSU on the bottom of my case for my little killer v2 but I dont like inverted MB layout so that didn't go well..

looks like that would be possible but would require a lot of moding. THe good thing for the armor case is the semi modular back panel. this case was designed to accept ATX and BTX motherboards.

Looking at the pics of your case I can see a lot of options for moding this case. I like the idea of an inverted motherboard becasue it will privide a better vew of the graphics card. Let me know if you need any ideas or want to do a little brainstorming.

Update: picked up some case fans for the case. I did a lot of searching and these are what I have come up with. Enermax TB Silence with blue LED.

These fans look awesome.
Here is one attached to the front panel.

Well, I thought I got a lucky break today when I was at the plastic shop. I found a piece of what I thought was clear acrylic that would fit the side panel in the scrap bin. I pealed back one corner to be sure it was what I wanted and purchased it. less than $4 so not a big deal. this evening I broke out the dremel, use the original window as a template and proceded to cut and drill the new piece. When I was all done I peeled the protective covering off and .......
......
......

It was frosted acrylic. What a bummer. Here is a picture of the side panel.

I accidentally damaged the paint on the top and one of the side panels. Hopefully I can just touch it up without having to repaint the entire panel.

Wet sand the areas and reshoot just those areas taping the rest off?

Thanks, I will give it a try. Will 1000 grit be good enough?
Update: Thanks for the tip loveha. Wet sanded with 1000 grit and touched up the damaged area. Looks really good. Thanks again.

Just saw that you had this done. Looks awesome, I actually kinda like the side window not being perfectly clear. It's different.

You know, I actually like the frosted acrylic. The front and side show the window looks photoshopped :P

Thanks, with the frosted window I do not have to worry to much about cable management. Here are some pics of the system installed.

I plan on building a PSU cover to will make hiding the cables easier. There is absolutely no room behind the motherboard tray but I still managed to make it presentable.
