I have 2 generic Android tablets I need to root so I can update them to a newer version . I talked to one manufacturer yesterday (Digiland from Best Buy) and they sais they don't support OS upgrades .That's the main one I want to upgrade . It's running KITKAT 4.4.2 right now , a newer version w/exact same specs is running 5.0.1 Lollipop . Their newest is running 6.0 but it uses an Intel quad core instead of the Arm 7 Cortex . All are at 1.3ghz & 1gb of system ram  . The 2nd smaller one is a dual core 1gb running 4.1.1 Jellybean . All the videos I've seen downloading some sketchy software that seems to add malware/bloatware to the mix .

I have rooted 4 different Android devices. Each used a different process and required special software designed by others -- smarter than me -- to exploit a security flaw in the system to gain elevated root permissions. Typically, at least in the past, it required connecting the Android device to a computer via USB, enabling debugging, and pushing a file and commands to the Android device via ADB terminal on the computer. Since the software exploiting the elevated root permissions technically means that it absolutely has full control over your tablet while executing, rooting a device is inherently risky from a security/privacy standpoint and therefore you should get your exploits from known/reputable sources. I suggest browsing www.rootjunky.com for inspiration.

Ok , thanks for the link . I'll check it out over the weekend . I've already put them in debug mode , but I was leery of some of the programs to root . I was happy when I got the 10.1" tablet w/KitKat to replace the older one with Jellybean . But unfortunately , it's being left behind by newer apps wanting later Android versions .

I can try and help you further but I really need the model number. It should be in settings somewhere.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

The 1st tablet is a Digiland 10.1" , model is # DL1010Q running KIK Kat 4.4.2. The 2nd one is a Nextbook 7" , model #NX007HD8G running Jellybean 4.1.1 .  I can experiment on the Jellybean version first , since it's older & hardly used . The Kit Kat one is a daily user for email & YouTube browsing . Funimation finally got off their butts & fixed their app issue of not working on it . But I do want to upgrade both of them. Any help is appreciated .
