What do you think about online grocery shopping?

I don't trust the employee's that fill the orders to take the time to pick the best produce or ones with the longest expiration dates (milk, bread and meat).

I did it once with Amazon.  I'll never do it again like that.  If you really need to go to a grocery store then in you should go to one.  I can see certain items being okay I guess.  A lot of their food was retail on the site but they made it out like it was some great discount.  Almost everything I ordered that had an expiration date was very close to it and a lot of people have commented on their site that their food was past the date.  Some items had to come on different days.  When it was all said and done I had about eight giant pantry boxes that I had to tear up and recycle.

One thing was done right. I bought a box of Reeses Fast Break Bars and they were in a special cooler box with two frozen ice packages.  Considering it was like 110 degrees Fahrenheit outside that was okay.  Plus I got two free reusable cold packs out of the deal.  You know, so I can put them on my kick boxing bruises (not.)

I get Darigold. It comes from a farm and facilities less than 10 miles away.  I get all my dairy fresh, pretty much the same day it is made.

    Gotta love those comments...

I DRANK SOME DIRECTLY FROM THE JUG. Aged. A different brand of milk may be substituted if Tuscan is currently unavailable. If you only want Tuscan Whole please mention that on your order, but understand that it may delay shipment. The product will NOT be refrigerated. No refunds, no returns once product is sent

Win Co, Fred Meyers(Krogers) and Cost Co, here. My Garden, or the window seal herb and pepper box!

As for groceries online, no! Other than dry foods for food storage. Not counting your local home brewing store.

We have been using Fresh Direct for years, great service, and often fresher than you can buy in local supermarkets - mind you, this is NYC and I guess it takes a while to distribute items to supermarkets in such a large population base. Fresh Direct are generally a little more expensive than supermarkets, but in NYC it makes a huge difference having this convenience - we just don't have the luxury of time to go grocery shopping, so this is well worth any slight premium on pricing. Quality is always very very high with these guys, and they have ratings (1-5 stars) on which produce is best at the moment, which is very helpful.

Good reasons for and against them. Problem is I wouldn't trust any of them. Employees aren't paid to pick and choose the best produce, they're paid to package what's in front of them. It would be against the store's bottom line if they paid employees to throw out anything other than the best looking produce.

I walked into Walmart the other day, both the refrigerated iced tea and the diet dr pepper had expiration dates four days away. Target wasn't any better, they had an entire case of Diet DP 2-liters that apparently was stashed someplace and forgotten about because it was two days from expiration. Yet they were sold out on the actual soda isle, go figure. Diet soda starts to taste off a month before that expiration date. I won't even bother getting started about Walmart's produce, I buy mine elsewhere.

Actually I think the reason is the inverse. NYC has the highest population density of any US city so for the quantity they buy the turnover is higher and produce doesn't sit around. Stores always buy too much produce for that area so it never turns over before it gets tossed.
