I'm using Windows 8.1 and it appears that all of my fonts are in order, but now I'm a bit paranoid.  Is there any chance that I lucked out and PrecisionX didn't bork my system files?

EVGA_JacobFLooks like this is being created by the Windows installer, we are working on it.

This is still an issue with the latest version of the software.  After moving from Windows 7 to 10 because of this issue, it resurfaced after installing the software.  Used a restore point and the issue went away.  Extremely frustrating to diagnose.

Running Windows 10 AE here and, after having used PrecisionX 5.3.11 and several versions of PrecisionX OC, the Arial Bold font in C:\Windows\Fonts remains untouched and normal.

Something related to that software is causing it.  Not sure what.  Since using the restore point, it's been completely fine.  The only other software I installed recently is some Visual Studio Redistributable packages and Origin.  The restore point removed those but, even after reinstalling them, my system is fine.

This issue is not fully resolved.  A number of users on Linus Tech Tips forums are experiencing the same issues.

+1 here.

I saw the thread over on the LTT forums. I didn't think anything of it when I saw that my font was different, until I saw the thread over at LTT. I agree that it is unfortunate this is happening, but I don't know if it is quite as crucial or a "terrible bug" like some users are describing. Again, I noticed it was different, but didn't even want to waste my time figuring out why it was different.

If the European Union Expansion Font Update fixes it, great! If it doesn't, I am totally fine with my font in my web browser being slightly different in exchange for using an EVGA card and their Precision software over the competition. I could understand if it was causing a gaping hole in the security of my system or causing me to constantly have to reboot for stability, but a font issue, to me, is small potatoes.

Generally, I would agree with your sentiment. It's a minor issue that in all likelihood does not pose any security risks. That being said, EVGA is a well-known company with plenty of resources to fix the problem. It's a bit ridiculous that such an issue would still exist after two years of releases.

Several users have been able to replicate the issue, so a fix isn't too much to ask for. I don't think I've ever come across a program that deletes pre-existing Windows files. Considering that I wiped an entire Windows 7 installation and installed Windows 10 to troubleshoot, I will probably wait until a fixed version is released.

I didn't realize this has been an ongoing thing for years. Still, for me, it isn't a huge deal, but it makes one wonder why it hasn't been addressed over the lifespan of the issue. Also, you raise another valid point; I'm not sure I have ever seen a program (with good intentions) that deletes pre-existing Windows files. This also makes one wonder why it ever did it in the first place. Is it just a byproduct of what the software does? Was it done intentionally? Surely not. Most of all, why is there no fix after 2 years?

If I had been one of the people that just couldn't live with it and had done a format and clean install, just to find out that it is PrecisionX, I probably wouldn't be too happy about the situation at all.

It's unfortunate you can't actually tag anyone on their forums, as tagging an EVGA production manager like EVGA_JacobF every month this fails to get resolved might garner some attention.
Unfortunately it's been going on for a few years now. I'm assuming they just want us all to start using MSI Afterburner instead.

Of course won't jack with your fonts. As a bonus it doesn't have the unnecessary server application.
It just seems to be a less intrusive application.

I also just ran into this issue.  Installed Precision XOC, wanting to mess with my fan profiles, only to find my Google Chrome all Bolded up.

Seriously?!  This thread was started 2.5 (Deleted for Foul Language) years ago and you STILL haven't fixed this?  Immediately uninstalled once I discovered the source, good job EVGA, good job.  You're seriously advertising for the other guys with this one.

EVGA is known to be pretty terrible at fixing remaining bugs and TAKING FOR EVER! Much displeasure has been voiced in this forum regarding Precision. I think its more simple to use and really prefer it over Afterburner. BUT. Ah heck not worth rambling on about it. They know about it and just stay quiet.

Don't even bother with Precision and just use MSI Afterburner. You'll never have any issues.
I've used EVGA cards with MSI Afterburner ever since that text issue started. There have been enough show stopping bugs in Precision that it's not worth it.

I did the exact same thing. I stopped using Precision X ever since this font changing bug and the other bug that causes massive keyboard input lag at windows start-up. I installed Precision X yesterday thinking that surely they've fixed these two issues as it's been over a year... I wish I'd read the forums first :(

Stick with MSI Afterburner people, it has the same functionality as Precision X but works!

I just got hit with this. Happened the moment I installed Precision X. I installed it to try to turn off my GPU's LEDs... there's actually no function for that and it blew up my fonts while it was at it.

EVGA fixed this issue on older versions of precision. Looks like it's time for evga to fix it in precision xoc too.

Remove the Roboto-Bold.ttf from the windows/fonts/ folder.  VIOLA!
No need to uninstall or reboot.  Instant gratification :)

I was hit by this bug and it was extremely annoying. What a huge waste of time figuring this out. Shame on EVGA for having their install program mess up your computer like that.

The quick solution to the problem is to go into your Windows fonts control panel, find "Roboto Bold" and delete it. The Precision XOC program still works without that font, and Google Chrome goes back to working normally.

This just happened to me also. Can't believe this is a 3 year old bug. I did the above to fix it. But found the solution on google help pages and then did some more digging which led me here.

Welcome to the Forum Simonsimps
Use Version 6.1.6
Their are to many issues ATM with 6.1.8 so I would stay away from this version.

I'm seeing the same issue myself. Was happening with 6.1.6 before I upgraded to 6.1.8.
