Quick question on FTW-K

I want to run 2 1080's and an M.2 drive.
2 use both in x16 you have to use slot 1 and 5? are they too far apart to SLI?
does placing a card in PCI 5 not overlay the .M2 slot?
HEAT an issue?

    what chipset are you referring to? We have the X99 FTW-K and the Z270 FTW-k
     
    Assuming it is the X99 variant, what CPU will you plan to install? 28 vs 40 lane CPU will change things drastically.

    According to the Motherboard Manual, PE1 and PE5 (the first and fourth x16 slots) are what you want to use for full x16 bandwidth in 2-Way SLI, but only with 40 lane processor (as EVGATech_MDecker said), and if PE3 and PE4 are not used..See the PCI-E Slot Breakdown in the Motherboard Manual for more details..The correct flexible SLI bridge should have come with your motherboard accessories, otherwise you need an 80mm bridge which is the distance between PE1 and PE5..SLI needs the x16 slots to run in at least x8 mode..Looks like the M.2 slot will be halfway covered up by a 1080..Heat should not be an issue..That's my take on it.

    yes x-99 , planning to use a I7 6850 for a full 40 lanes.
    does an M2 sit flush with the MB or do they stand off? This is my concern if half of a 1080 is overhanging it, especially if 1080 underclocks with heat over 46*C .

    Flush, and you'll be good to go with that CPU..Wouldn't worry about it.
