I'll be doing a clean install (new M.2 drive).
Is there an order in which I should install the drivers? I have downloaded the latest from the site.
The order I have is:
1) Chipset
2) Intel ME
3) Intel Turbo Boost
4) Intel RAID Management
5) Network
6) Audio (Creative)
7) Audio Driver (SB_Recon3)
8) .NET
9) USB3

Why are there two audio drivers? I checked in device management and I have SB Recon3Di installed.

Intel Driver Installation Order

Driver installation order is one of the most crucial issues regarding overall system performance. It's critical to install the Intel® Chipset Device Software (INF) before all other device drivers. See the table below for the recommended installation order.

1 The operating system.
2 The latest operating system service pack and patches.
3 The Intel® Chipset Device Software (INF Utility).
4 All other device drivers (audio, graphics, LAN, and so on). You can install these drivers in any order.

I used the DVD Install order that came with the MB for Windows 7 & 8.1.
Once Completed then I updated the drivers as needed.

The only thing I did out of order were the Intel i218-v drivers.   I installed the drivers during the installation on my X99 FTW K, of Windows 10.  This way, after initial boot into the OS, I was already activated.  Then pretty much followed the remaining order.  Doesn't seem to have effected my system's performance

MSI MAG X670-E Tomahawk;  Ryzen 7 7800X3D; Asus TUF RTX 4070 TI OC; Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 PSU; 32 GB  Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 RGB; Corsair iCue Link H150i RGB 360MM AIO; 2-Western Digital Black 4 TB SN850X NVMe; Creative SoundBlaster Z;  Lian Li Lancool III; EVGA Z15 Keyboard; Razer Viper 8K Mouse

For some reason, every time I use the CD (auto) to install drivers, it breaks my computer. Right after installing USB3 drivers, my mouse and keyboard do not work. I can't do anything, even safe mode is broken. I have to install everything manually. This time when installing Intel ME drivers, I got an error saying driver framework wasn't installed (kmdf-1.11). I didn't have that happen to me when I first built this system. Maybe a newer BIOS version brought this out?

I downloaded all the drivers from EVGA, the drivers for my video card, and a couple updates from Windows (to fix the update issue).

I've not installed drivers from a CD in aged. I just keep them on a drive in the DRIVERS folder... I just purged it the other day. Had some stuff clear back from and old Tri-core AMD build.

+1.  When I'm going to do a fresh OS install, I get all the current drivers I'll need in advance and save them to a folder on a seperate drive.  Then once the new OS install is done, I have them all nice and handy...

I have a flash drive specifically put aside for all the drivers on all my machines.  I usually have last three releases of each set of drivers, in case something is wrong with the latest.  I have three folders (two desktops and one laptop).  I always install the AHCI and LAN drivers during the OS install...then follow the order above.  So far, so good!

KB & Mouse are in USB 2.0 ports, when you install USB 3.0 driver ?

Why use the CD ?  Copy newest driver to your HD.

I always use the newest drive that is not Beta driver

I'll also keep a copy of the previous driver till done testing; as the newest driver could have undocumented issues.

Re: correct order of driver install (X99 Classified) 2017/02/21 16:03:42 (permalink)
The keyboard and mouse are in USB2 ports. Even when this motherboard was brand new, I used the CD during the first driver install. I used auto-run and right after the USB3 drivers were installed, and the system restarted, I no longer was able to use the mouse/keyboard. I then had to a reinstall as I wasn't able to get to safe mode either.

The only way to fix this was to manually install the drivers, but I soon realized that if I didn't install the USB3 drivers last, I would run into the same issue.

I'm not sure why, but this is the only way I'm able to get the board to work.
