If you’re one of the many Windows users still hanging on to Windows 7 with a tight grasp, Microsoft wants you to know that it’s not super happy about it. The company, which has already admitted that it used some shady tactics to get users to upgrade from 7, 8, and 8.1 to 10, is now trying a new approach by suggesting that continuing to use Windows 7 will inevitably lead to security issues for you as a user.    Link

They don't like it?!? Good!!!!! We don't like what they did with 10. Maybe we can come up with dome sort of compromise. I guess if your tech illiterate then you may buy the puke they are spewing forth but for those of us who aren't and know how to use and properly setup a O/S I find there changes to 10 insulting and will NEVER use it or promote it in its current iteration. Hopefully Vulcan can put the last nail in the coffin.

OK, forcing an "Upgrade" did not work, so lets try to panic the general public ---really?  Just install some decent aftermarket security products.

    LINK
    techrepublic.com/article/if-windows-7s-security-is-so-outdated-why-doesnt-microsoft-make-it-as-good-as-windows-10/

    excerpt:
But it would be naive to assume Microsoft has no wider commercial interest in seeing users move to Windows 10, as was evident by the lengths it went to get home users to upgrade from Windows 7 and 8.

"Microsoft is moving away from selling traditional software licenses to selling cloud-based services in Azure, and wants everyone stuck on Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 10 to help drive this business model," said Fossen.

"Microsoft wants everyone in the world to have a Microsoft Account in Azure, to log into their Windows or non-Windows devices with their Microsoft Account, and then use Azure-integrated web services like Office 365, Cortana, Outlook.com, OneDrive, Skype, and so on.

"Windows 10 is Microsoft's preferred platform for Azure, not just for the licensing income, but also because many Windows 10 features are designed around Azure services, and more Azure integration will be added every year, such as for LinkedIn."

Microsoft's messaging on the security shortcomings of Windows 7 seems targeted at business users. While Microsoft said last year that Windows 10 was being adopted "150 percent faster" than Windows 7, some unofficial figures paint a different picture, with a study by Softchoice finding that less than one percent of Windows PCs inside firms were running Windows 10.

However, businesses may not be persuaded by Microsoft's approach of stressing Windows 7's vulnerability, given many larger enterprises run security suites to safeguard their infrastructure. And while Microsoft talks up Windows 10's enhanced security, aspects have been found to be lacking in some external tests, notably Windows 10's built-in malware protection.

I have 3 that will never switch from win7 to 10.
Only way I would switch is if they bring back windows MCE into win10.
Until then too bad for them.

If they dont give up soon it's only inevitable that they develop and spread viruses for taking out Win7 users in an attempt to get them to upgrade through frustration.

If they would just give it out Free without the activation BS and an Install Key I would switch all of my computers.
But then all MS would do is make for only ONE Per Household or some other dumb rule.

Remember you had to pay for it under Windows 8.x
I did that MC Install and with the new Upgrade for Windows came out it removed it. You know the Windows Anniversary Update.
It killed all my old little tricks and with one coming out every year it suck that you have re-setup how you want your system to work.
They Really need to go back to Service Packs and stop install a complete new OS on the Side of the Current one.

Yeah, that is the big drawback to using it on Win10.  But for anyone wanting to use W10 and WMC, at least you have the option.

Microsoft "broke" VLANs and NIC teaming on Windows 10.  It's very simple -- once they fix what they broke, I'll consider upgrading.  Until then, I'll happily cling to Win7 Ultimate with my VLANs and NIC teams for my NAS storage intact.

Yes, have been following that thread for well over a year!!  I'll get excited for real when Intel comes out with the driver.

SMB3 looks cool and promising...I'll have to research it a little more, but I know it was also problematic with Synology NAS devices and Windows 10 PCs, at least at one point in time.  Thanks for pointing it out, though -- I guess I've been concentrating so much on waiting for Intel/Microsoft & NIC teaming that I forgot about digging into it further!  Must be an age thing!!

edit:  Well, that didn't take long -- I can see that SMB3 is seemingly nothing but problematic when using Win10 and Synology NAS devices.  What ticks me off the most is that Microsoft had pretty much bullet-proof NIC teaming available all the way back to Windows 3.11, and they just decided to remove the core functionality from their "consumer" OS's on a whim.  The includes ALL versions of Windows 10, but the way.  Their stated attitude at one point is that if you need it, then you need to buy a server product.  Yeah, right, that's going to happen!!

Oh well, guess I'm remaining ever optimistic that the fix from Intel will appear sometime in February, as promised...

    Sorry, but -- WRONG!

A:  I can make the same statement:  "A lot of IT departments are still holding out upgrading to Windows 10 because of numerous issues that Microsoft can't/won't fix."
B:  I know a LOT of "tech savy (sic)" people myself, and NONE of them will use Windows 10 for various reasons, none of which have anything to do with fear.
C:  I actually run Windows 10 an numerous machines, both physical and virtual.  However, my main machine REQUIRES NIC teaming, and Microsoft removed that functionality over a YEAR ago on nothing more than a whim.  I guarantee you that I'm not "scared of it".

Finallly, I'm not a Microsoft basher -- I have used Microsoft all the way back to MS-DOS days, and I use multiple operating systems both at work and home because I want what works best for whatever workload the machine is performing.  My main machine is my gaming machine, my movie machine, etc., so it runs Windows, and no NIC teaming is a deal-breaker for me.  Heck, if it weren't my gaming system, I'd have put Linux on it ages ago -- teaming works with no problem (and if it didn't I'm fully capable of writing/compiling network stack/kernel drivers that WOULD allow teaming).

I guess all I'm saying is I'd be careful making blanket statements like the only people holding on to Windows 7 are those that are scared of Windows 10 -- believe me, there are a TON of reasons other than being "scared" of it.

If any of this comes across as a personal attack on you, I apologize, that's not my intention at all.  Just pointing out a different viewpoint...and maybe venting my frustration over the loss of NIC teaming a little bit...

I don't blame people for hanging onto Windows 7, it was a much smoother OS IMO. Windows 10 took me quite a bit of tweaking, and there are things I still don't like but can't do much about.

If there were a better OS for gaming than Windows, I'd be using it, but most games are designed for Windows; Mac and Linux get nowhere near the same support either.
