I just upgraded my 10 yr. old TV from 720p to 1080p in my bedroom, which forced me to swap some HTPC hardware.
I am now with only 2 HDMI inputs, and 1 Component Input on the TV.
My old TV had VGA with RCA A/V. This new TV is very limited. So Component Video, with Analog Composite Audio is what I have to use.
So I will be using an 8600GT I already had in a server that wasn't needed.

I have the S-Video type to Composite Dongle, and wondering if this little skinny wire dongle is adequate.
with Specs for component 1080p are to use Coax Cables which I have.

It just seems wrong to plug these heavy stiff coax cable into this flimsy little dongle.

I should be plugging this in for testing in a couple hours.

My next option is to buy something like an EVGA GT 710/730 or something cheap with HDMI with audio, and use an HDMI multi switch.
It's just for watching MP4, and streaming KODI, youtube etc...

Thanks all for any suggestions, or input.

Never mind, I did searching and found some specs were incorrect where I was reading.
as it turns out the 8600gt (512-P2-N756-TR) that I have is (Composite) not (Component)
So now I need a card with Component Out.

I should have known this card was not component by the flimsy cable question I asked.

    Problem is solved.
As it turns out the 8600GT is in fact Component Video
I was plugging them in by color which was Incorrect,
when I was putting a dongle back in my box I noticed some of the other (10) dongles had marked on them the correct placement.
So now all is good, over scan at 1920x1080 was horrible so I just dropped the resolution down 1 notch.
1792x982 I think or something close.

So anyone else needing this info, use the lettering scheme not colors.
Notice the colors do not match up, but (Y) (Pb) (Pr) if connected to (Y) (Pb) (Pr) works fine.

IIRC, the 7-pin mini-DIN on the 8600GT is composite/S-Video. For component, a simple VGA-Component cable will work.

If you're looking to go for HDMI, you can use a DVI-HDMI cable, but the 8600GT won't pass audio. A GF210 would work fine for 1080p. I'm using one in my Win7 WMC box. The other HTPC has a GT630.

Just wanted to reply here for reference:
still using this setup on the 1080p and scaling is perfect 1920x80, all works great.
