MSI sent me a Z170A-G45 Gaming since they had no more Z77 models and I can't even reach BIOS. I try to short the pins to reset the BIOS and it lights up a blue LED. If I have to replace this motherboard it is going to be a PITA. There was nothing wrong with my Z97 Gaming 7 but I thought I might try this as an upgrade. What a mistake.

What CPU did you go with?
    Do the Norm;
    Use One Ram Stick
Check to see you have Bent CPU Socket Pins
Use the IGPU to see if it is working in the Bios
But I bet you have already done this.

I know you are using a waterloop, but have you tried slowly removing components to see if something else may be causing it?

Using a i7-6700k. Tried single stick of RAM to no avail. Disconnected all but my system drives. RAM is on their approved list but I forget what it is. I just tried clearing the CMOS again.

The only thing I did not install was a CD/ROM. I didn't think I needed one.

Anyway, I did check for bent pins too. I have to go get something for dinner. I let the geniuses here think about it until I get back. The EVGA Z170 FTW is on sale right now. I might have to finally try an EVGA motherboard.

We're hoping that different slower RAM might fix it but I was certain that what I bought was on the QVL list. If it don't work after that I am certain I can drain the rear rad, detach the front hose to the video board assembly and snake that motherboard out of there. The biggest decision then is whether I want a Z170 anything or put my Z97 Gaming 7 back in. Z170 FTW was on sale with a $40 instant rebate but the shipping charges associated with buying direct from here is enough to give me another heart attack plus they drag their feet getting it out the door.

Is it just the angle of your picture, optical illusion or maybe my poor eyesight........but it looks like the whole right side (in the photo) the pins are laid over to the left.

That's just the way they are made. It looks to me like all of those pins bend in the middle to give it a spring type action. They used to call that an 'elbow joint' or 'elbow action' on antique car shock absorbers. I am looking more for symmetry where all pins are in perfectly straight rows and columns. Here's another angle but it's hard to try and wiggle an iPhone past the hoses.

It doesn't look like any of the EVGA Z170 motherboards have the proper spacing for my video boards. Too bad or I might get one.

It doesn't hang up. It keeps cycling 4C, 55, 0d, 00 and repeats forever until I shut it off.

Maybe try unplugging the front panel connectors?  Seems like the reset signal is stuck.

I already yanked them off. I removed everything until I had nothing but a bare motherboard with CPU, RAM, keyboard and mouse. Keyboard or mouse won't light up either. If new RAM doesn't fix it I will RMA the CPU and pitch a fit to MSI about sending me a DOA motherboard.

Try single ram in different slot. Is there a bios switch for different bios? If so try it.

I have the exact board -

-definitely make sure the Bios is updated ( many of them allowed for better ram compatibility )

-only use the 2 sticks of ram to begin with ( manual tells you the exact ones when booting on 2 )
      "  it is dimm 2 & dimm 4   "

I didn't ever see you post what memory you put in ?   but I do know early Bios's had issues with Gskill and a few others but the 2 sticks I used worked great.
     Gskill 3200 spd DDR4

other than memory/ cpu / monitor / psu / KB mouse  ,  you don't even need a hard drive to get into Bios --- so here's hoping you don't have to tear it all down & start over

You're right, I didn't say but here is the QVC list: https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z170A-G45-GAMING.html#support-mem
These are the modules I got first: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231907
They are approved but I ordered slower RAM because of problems most have with faster RAM speeds. These are coming today and are NOT approved but the 4x4 GB set with the exact same timing is approved: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233834
Corsair RAM is junk but I didn't feel like fumbling through the list.
If all else fails I will get one of these on sale: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132715

Good choice there.  I've got a Z97 Sabertooth and it's hands down one of the best boards I've ever used.  The thermal radar, extra temp sensors, and fan control works awesome.

Ran a Z87 Sabertooth.  No issues with it internally.  Just got tired of it's twitchiness in regards to external USB 3.0 devices.  Hopefully that's been sorted out on the newer boards.

The only thing that bothers me is no LED readout. It's nice to be able to see the trouble code instead of trying to count beeps if it decides to not boot one day if you know what I mean.

It could also display the codes on the monitor as it boots like my EVGA Z97 does.  Which is nice, because of where the PC sits, I can't see the readout anyway.
