I've been running 12GB (6x2GB) Corsair Dominator GT (1866MHz 7-7-7-20) on my original 759 X58 Classified rig for years. CPU temps at idle were in the upper 20s - low 30s on any given day. Under load the cores would head up into the 50s and 60s. Decided to max out the RAM on this MB and picked up 24GB of Dominator GT 6x4GB (2000MHz 9-10-9-27). CPU temps took a pretty big jump and at idle the cores are in the 50s and 60s. Under load the cores shoot up to the 90s! Only changes to settings I made were the timings for the new RAM. Everything has been completely stable (until I hit those high temps and got a blue screen) My rig is watercooled. Here are my other specs: CPU: Intel core i7 990x - overclocked at 150x27 puts it right over 4.0GHz at 1.28 cpu vcore MB: X58 Classified e759 Graphics: 2x 980 Kingpins SLI Memory: 6x4GB Corsair Dominator GT 2000MHz 2:12 multiplier puts me at 1867MHz MB chipset, CPU, video cards are all watercooled. Just wondering if I should have expected these kinds of temp increases when I doubled the memory? I realize the memory handling is actually on the CPU itself, but I didn't think it would be this much of a difference. Any thoughts?

Sounds like pump failure to me. Does putting the old ram back in fix the heating issue?

You know, I thought that at first as well, but all of my components, tubing, fittings are heating up; making me think that the coolant is circulating. But maybe the pump is compromised and just isn't pushing as hard as it should be. Haven't tried putting the old RAM back in yet. I'll try that next.

Core temps were unchanged when I put the original 6x2GB sticks in. So I'm thinking maybe the pump is compromised. Should I expect CPU temps to rise by increasing my RAM from 12GB to 24GB?

Did you check your BIOS to make sure your clock speeds weren't adjusted when you installed the higher clocked RAM?

I even went in and removed the OC to see if that would make a difference.

Sounds like you may have just bumped your cpu cooler. If the TIM is dried out it doesn't take a whole lot to unseat it. Try changing TIM to see if that helps

Still sitting on my desk. Plan on selling it. PM if you're interested.

A bit off topic but where did buy that RAM? I am running a 12gb kit of the same modules and would like to add another 12gb.

Man, I lucked out and found a seller on eBay selling two kits (24gb). I actually had an extra kit I just sold on eBay just last week. 😢

Damn. I'll have to keep an eye out. Mind if I ask how much you paid? Was it used or new?

He had them in two separate auctions, both sets were used. I won the auctions, $81 for one set and $101 for the other. So $182 for 24gb! My extra set sold for $76.

Alright, one last follow-up question. I hooked up the pump to one of the fan headers (JPPWR) to see what it is registering for RPM. E-LEET showed the pump operating at 4250-4350 rpm, which sounds about right. Could the pump be compromised in another way? Maybe some sort of pressure issue, where even though it's spinning at the correct speed it's not pushing the coolant well? Is there a better pump than the swiftech MCP655? My setup includes: MB/chipset waterblock CPU waterblock Dual GPU waterblocks 120mm Triple Radiator XSPC Dual Bay resevoir

You can squeeze the tubing to feel if any pressure is on the tubing from the pump, it won't hurt it.

Maybe a blockage causing the coolant not to flow correctly.

That's not bad at all. I'll have to check into Ebay every once in awhile and keep an eye out. Thanks!
