Hey all

Since my main CUDA system has two EVGA GTX 480 1.5GB's still in use Ia m looking to replace them with 2x EVGA GTX 680 4GB's SC's FTW's or normal 4GB cards, that doesn't really matter.GTX 680's have nice prices now and for someone like me they seem to be well worth te grab for their low values.
What Iam curious about is how well do they run games even whenw e have Vulkan API, OpenGL 45, DX12 and some of the later DX11 titles likewise?

My Reso is 1920x 1200p so it's not all too demanding, and I could go 1080's and such but why would I if I can get 60 fps with VSync with two GTX 680 4GB's likewise right :)
Anyways just wanted to know Star Wars Battlefront, Descent Underground, Overload, Battlefield 1, Star Citizen , Other major game titles like GTA5 for example I dunno what else, doesn't matter :)

The thing is I really miss my EVGA GTX 680 SC Signature 2GB's that I had in 2-Way SLI from 2012 to around 2014:

You all remember that day right and I used this as wallpaper :)

Anywyas I loved those two, I hope to reobtain them someday but then two 4GB models the ones I had were 2GB models

I would say which ever one has the Blower Style Cooler for the case shown in Post #1
But also you really do need 4GB of vRam now.

Yeah i had that same thing in thought even I use 1920x 1200p :)
The EVGA High-Flow Brackets and the Backplates are a must have, I love older style hardware even tho the GK104-400-A2 can still do some neat things :)
Ah well I'll keep looking I found a few on ebay but ergh dem shipping & custom prices doh lel
At least it's not as hard as trying to find 2x EVGA GTX 580 3GB Tron Versions lol...even two of those will do very well even today.

But GTX 680 4GB's it is

nice price...yeah you know they have about the performance of a 1050ti, right? which will be maybe 20-30 bucks more than a 2nd hand 680, but way cooler and quieter...just make sure you get those with a decent VRM/PCB temp^^

its insulting how Nvidia disrespects the calculationpower of this older generations, they call it "optimization" but in real life its nothing more than letting the old cards look stupid to make the new genration stronger. Im watching very closely atm...when a gtx 1060 will finally pass by my 980 Classified, it will be my last Nvidia Card. I watched this poor drama when a 970 became stronger than a 780ti in more and more games.

edit: yeah before someone tells me, i know theres no 1050 ti SLi^^....well id go with 1060 then definetly, even if youre a SLi-Fan. Even if its only the 3 Gig version. I used to have KFA 680 SLI as well, today i think everything less than a 980 or RX 470 is not reasonable for SLI/CF.

again, i can not really confirm that..especially in newer titels this cards perform terrible, way worse than a benchmark result gives the impression...thx to the Nvidia-"Optimization" policy...its not like on the AMD side, where a card stays as strong as it is, even on the long run...a 7970 will always perform like one, its not gonne be artificially downgraded.

Well I collect GPU's if you didn't know yet:
    http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2461523

So to me 2x EVGA GTX 580 3GB Tron cards would be my major dream, but 2x EVGA GTX 680 FTW  4GB's would be just as good as well , probably better as they are newer have more cores more VRAM etc.
It's that I crave for retro to mid aged hardware,  I use these to see how long they can actually be used before the VRAM becomes an issue I am running 2-Way SLI GTX 480's for about 7 years and 4 months now and in most games theyare on par with a GTX 780 3GB and I have to admit that is really not that bad

Fallout 4 was interesting to use as testing material, but the same for Descent Underground which uses Unreal Engine 4.12+
The image quality was great for both games, but with only 1.5GB VRAM per GPU, Fallout 4's engine was a sacrifice for my GTX 480's.
The GF100-375-A3 only have 1.5GB VRAM, that to which is their Achilles Heel, but a GF110-375-A1 with 3GB VRAM may just do it :)

My reso is 1920 x 1200p so for that part 2x 3GB GTX 580's should be enough :)
    Here that test system btw:
    http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2275982

My other test system has a NVIDIA GTX 480 Engineering Sample in it.
It's GF100-375-A2 has 480 Fermi CUDA Cores but only 1280MB 320Bit GDDR5 it also runs 40% Slower than a stock 480, but 25% faster than a stock GTX 285, so for 1440 x 900 it's really not bad actually, DX11 games that use Unreal Engine 4 run very well actually  around 42 to 54 fps in High Settings, I used Descent Underground for this test.

This is the card ChrisRay advised me to get functional GeForce Led Logo going you can read more about this beauty over here:
    http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2034410
That is 1 of 5 GTX 480 ES board with a functional LED logo known in collector's hands btw, it's super ultra rare and one of my most valued cards ever.
It took me about three and a half year to find one of these that was when I looked on ebay 4 to 5 times a day rofl, but hey it was well worth it to me

All in all I am different than most people here, since I like to research lost treasures of the VGA card world since 3dfx and up

My main system is the one my MODS RIGS is linked to, these older GPU's are for my hobby systems :)
my main has a R9 290X 4GB  it has 2816 GCN 1.1 ALU's in DX12 & Vulakn API it beats a 98t0  with plentiful ease stick just under a GTX 1070 in those API's it's a well thought design I have it for 3 years and it still gets the job done right when I use Vulkan all my 24 Opteron Cores @ 2.5Ghz are also used with the 2816 GCN 1.1 cores as well it's a stupendous amount of rending power no need to upgrade that yet it seems :)

So not to worry I am pretty much up to date Star Citizen would run great @ 2560x 1600 in Ultra mode with Mantle & Vulkan API, even I took use of AMD"s lovely VSR mode on my HP ZR24w 16:10 1920x 1200p HS-IPS Panel
That system can be seen here:

    Valkyrie SMP 2014

So I am pretty much alright as my main goes, the GTX 680 4GB's is pure for the have and to see how long they can run today's latest games even considering the new gen stuff like Vulkan API and DX12 if I ever plan on using Win10, just not my needs of interest atm.
