I HAD an Overlord 27 inch Tempest monitor that was acting up. Sadly, it finally died. I had to bring back my old reliable 24 inch Samsung. I've been doing a lot of searching/researching looking at both 4K ISP's and 2560x1440 ISP's. I'm looking at this monitor:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-27-inch-Widescreen/dp/B0173PEX20/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Do any of you have any experience with this monitor and or Acer in general?
What are your thoughts on this monitor?

Thanks in advance.

I have owned a few of the 1080 Acers. Nothing great like you're looking at. I can say in my experience their RMA service is almost as good as EVGA's. I have only had one issue owning several different ones. I wouldn't be afraid of that monitor you're eyeballing....matter of  fact I would love it! It has all the features I would like in an upgrade: 2560x1440 IPS-G-Sync- refresh rate OC to 165 [using display port]  Do you have a GOOD GPU to drive it?  Here is a discussion on a few higher resolution monitors that may help.

Thanks for the response.

I have an EVGA 980 TI SC so it should handle it very nicely.

Ahhhhhh. This 24 inch 1920x1080 monitor is driving me crazy. Too small and not as good as the 2560x1440 was. I'm spoiled!!!! LOL

I have an Acer XB271HU, and haven't had any problems with it; definitely the best monitor I've ever owned. It's a pretty good range of motion on the stand, and mine has minimal backlight bleed.

Have you noticed any lag with yours considering that they are set at 4MS?

You shouldn't notice any lag unless the response time is slower than the refresh rate; I don't play CS:GO or other high-FPS shooters, so YMMV, but I haven't noticed any real problems.

How long have you had your monitor?

When doing my research on it I ran across a site that rates monitors. Their top 10 selection for monitors for the month of Oct. 2016 was equal to 5 stars and was their top pick in that category.

The most demanding game that I play is FO 4 with a couple of mods.

I have the Acer Predator X34 Gsync monitor and I love it.  It is a bit pricey though.

I also have a Overlord Tempest that I would be willing to sell you for $100 (you pay shipping) it was part of the very first shipment and has been rock solid. I may still have the original box.  Send me a PM if you are interested.

I pulled the trigger on that Acer monitor and shot my X-mas money with a little extra for this year. Only if I would have known earlier. Thanks for the offer!!!!

I see you already purchased it. I was going to say for slightly less money you could have got a ASUS ROG PG278Q - very similar specs, but 1ms response as opposed to 4ms. One of the top gaming monitors around for the last 18 months.

I saw that also but when I read the reviews I decided to step back on that. It seemed that QC was on the down side compared to Acer. While I do own an ASUS Z87 Hero board (currently in service) and it is a great board, I see far too many people complaining about broken products and very bad customer support.

We have 2 of the Acer 27" Predators and I just bought the 34" which will be here tomorrow. I even still have their first 27" Gsync 1080p Monitor that I use for Procon, Discord and other less useful apps while I game. Love Acer so much!

Did you have to go into any settings to make the monitor work?

Re: Any Acer Monitor Users? 2016/10/15 16:14:52 (permalink)
I have the Acer monitor hooked up but ran into problems. When powering on both the system and monitor the system goes through the BIOS check and then moves on to the Windows start screen. This is where the issues start. All of my on screen information is gone. Things like icons for shortcuts, trash can and my normal desktop settings. The bottom tray that has the date and time information as well as the other icons that are normally there are gone.  Also, there is no mouse arrow control. It's like the screen froze.

I tried safe mode and it then shows my desktop and tray icons and information but at a much lower resolution. Mouse movement is also restored.

I have an EVGA 980 TI SC. This card has the DVI connector, 3 display ports and 1 HDMI port for a total of 4 ports. My Samsung monitor uses the DVI display port. The Acer requires the HDMI port and one of the display ports. 2 ports total.

OS is Windows 7 64 home.

Your thoughts on this.

Should not need the HDMI port. Just the DP. Unplug the HDMI, and select the DP in the menu if it does not default it.

Now he tells me!!!!!!!

Looking at the manual they don't mention that LITTLE item. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I could have been playing FO 4 all this time.

THANK YOU!!!!

I have to say that this is one very clean display. This looks sharper than the Overlord Tempest 27" monitor that just died and that was an awesome unit.

Both the Dell S2716DG and ASUS PG278Q use TN panels; they provide faster refresh rates, but generally don't have the same color quality, and are usually cheaper as a result.

I am impressed with this monitor. It's very sharp and detailed and I'm still playing with the settings. There is quite a bit of movement for adjustment. The push buttons are on the face of the panel for easy access.

Now light bleed. What's that? I sit in a dark room with no lighting other than the monitor and keyboard and the only light that I see is from the screen directly. Nothing out the sides or top and bottom except the on indicator which doesn't count.

Now dead pixel. What's that? I gave up looking. I did find one on the Samsung backup monitor.

I am enjoying it.

I may have spent a bit more for this monitor but I have no regrets. For me, I got what I paid for. I did look at the Dell but didn't want the TN panel. I wanted to try something different and different it is. Thus far I can't complain.

You will have zero troubles with Acer, they're a company that's usually overlooked by alot of people. They have many products to offer to compete with any brand. I have an Acer myself. At work right now and can't remember the model #. It's the 27" with GSYNC at 1080P. I'm not going to upgrade until Volta GPUs comes out.

I have to say that this monitor is different than my old, now deceased Overlord. It is, as stated earlier, cleaner and sharper.

I don't notice any lag (1ms vs 4ms) as it seems to be right there.

This question is going to come with opinionated answers, but I want to know. Is the X34 monitor worth getting? It is ultra-wide. I have never owned one of these monitors.
