It's monitor time for me and I need some help.

I have an Overlord 27 inch 2560 x 1440. It's starting to act up and I don't want to wait until the last moment.

I have an EVGA 980 SC TI that is hooked to the monitor. I've been thinking about a 4K setup. I also plan to do a system build in the not too distant future so I want to get a jump on it. I want to stay at or above a 27 inch unit.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Budget to $500 but would like to stay below that if possible.

I'm also in the same boat. I've been looking at the ASUS monitors but at the $800+ price range they have too many reviews about bad QC for me to pull the trigger on one. Do you prefer TN or IPS?

Dell has a 27" IPS 4k monitor right at your budget or this LG monitor at $426.

The concern I would have is that going from an overlord to one of the 4k models you will see a big drop in refresh rate.  And since you have a 900 series you can't go [link=mailto:4k@120]4k@120[/link].  What model of Overlord do you have?  If it is a 60 Hz model you will be fine with 4k, otherwise you might want to stay with 1440p @ 120+Hz, as many people find it VERY hard to go back after having a high refresh for a while.

While I do have and ASUS Z87 (Hero) MB I don't want to push my luck. I've seen far too many negative reviews and the down time for the product(s) once approved is rather long. ASUS is out. Besides, EVGA spoiled me with their customer service.

Educate me on the TN and IPS monitors.

I will be looking at your recommendations. Thanks!!!!

    Dave,
I have the Overlord Tempest. Yes I can overclock it but because of the huge difference between my previous 1920x1080 and current Overlord I chose not to do so. So it is at stock settings. And I don't want to go back to 1080 either.

    Do you have any recommendations?

    Thanks.
