If you play the Witcher 3 and have used either of the 2 latest nvidia drivers you might realize the SLI profile has mysteriously disappeared for 3 way and 4 way SLI. An accident or a bug? Nope. They removed these on purpose and their reasoning is to fix a shadow glitch in the game that was there A YEAR AGO and has been patched by CD projekt red for MONTHS. oh gee thanks nvidia! They are going through and retroactively removing all support even for games that work fine with it. Go buy 2 1080's now!

We're not only paying premium prices because of newer technology. We are also paying higher prices for 10 series boards to compensate for all of the lost business to the Power Users that used to buy 3 or 4 high end video boards and can't do that anymore.

Called it back when they backtracked on 3 and 4 way SLI support for games with the 10 series.

You might as well forget about watercooling those 1080 Classifieds because EKWB decided they will not be manufacturing waterblocks for them now. Plenty of waterblocks for Strix and MSI though. LOL

The GTX 1080 still supports 3-way and 4-way SLI over the classic bridges that come with motherboards, but you would have to obtain a special software key from NVIDIA and would rely on your game/benchmark developers to optimize their apps for 3-way/4-way SLI. NVIDIA's regular driver updates will likely only optimize for 2-way SLI. NVIDIA "Pascal" GPUs do support Microsoft DirectX 12's multi-display adapter (MDA) mode, but NVIDIA will not provide game-specific optimizations through driver updates for MDA. That would become the game developer's responsibility. The same applies to "explicit" LDA (linked display adapter). LINKhttps://www.techpowerup.c...eForce_GTX_1080/3.html Enthusiasts wanting to use 3-way or 4-way SLI would download an app from an upcoming "Enthusiast Key" website, run the app, and generate a software key signature for their hardware to unlock 3-way and 4-way SLI in NVIDIA's Control Panel. SO, "Enthusiast Key" website --- Is where?

Yeah, there is no enthusiast key - there is no game support for 3 and 4 way SLI for 10 series as they originally said, and it appears that Nvidia is now removing 3 and 4 way support for 9 and under series cards now.
Basically they are completely bailing on 3 and 4 way.
Next up, Nvidia bails on 2 way SLI support.

Next up, I bail on nVidia and go AMD well I bailed AMD and went back to NVidia when there newer drivers stoped supporting some games as I found out like if you use any driver over a old 12.xx the game is no longer supported also with the 900 card I still get all os support amd it near 7 or above only after 13.12 and then the physix games that don't work under AMD [ but NVidia as I stated in another thread physix driver don't support a few older physyx games and you have to get / use the old agiea PhysX to do so ] but they work after that well it got to the point to where they don't support you but now you got to support them like if you want to run there new hard ware you better have all new hardware cause it may not work as so plug and play as use to be [like a 900 card requires full uefi bios kinda thing ] or like I read with win-10 how some games that were fully on retail disk may not even work but the steam one will [something to do with the game disk drm on the dvd /cd's ] so games you ''OWN'' and free to use as you see fit may no longer work or you go ""RENT '' it at added cost from steam [no thanks] whats next, pay as you play by the hour ? all cloud based full internet connection required [were darn close to that now ] seems in the end they don't want you to own / hold nothing with out going through them first and stay connected at all times with all there ''content'' uploading and downloading just to use / play .. sad times and it near you personal computer may as well be a public one ..

The biggest point missed is that the developers don't care about 3way or 4way. So why should Nvidia care? Only a fraction of consumers ever bothered with 3/4 way SLI. That's what Nvidia sees in it, so why should they pay their engineers more money when there's no gain from it (in their wallet)? Nvidia won't even lose a hair by this maneuver.
