I just put together a new system and I am getting a CMOS Checksum error and the system boots to the BIOS if I attempt to clear it. The motherboard post codes are A2 and then it will cycle between 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36. I have reset the CMOS and the problem persists. I have removed everything but the video card, one stick of ram, the CPU, and motherboard power cable. There are not fan, case switch, or usb headers connected. Hardware: Motherboard: EVGA Z170 FTW updated to v1.09 CPU: Intel i7 LGA 1151 6700K RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200Mhz 16GB What am I missing? What should I do next? I am very stuck.

Is your RAM on the approved list of MB or RAM MFG ? Load default Bios settings Save Reboot Load your edits and Turn Fast Boot OFF Set RAM to Auto with manual Voltage set to Mfg specs -- Or set RAM full manual ---- Do NOT use XMP at first

You have the CPU 4/8-pin (PSU) and the 24-pin connected ?

Yes, I have both the 8 pin and 24 pin connected. I turned fast boot off and set the memory to manual at the mfg specification. It got into a post loop ending in 4C...which is not in the list in the manual Now I have reset the CMOS and it is putting up a new error, A6, which is SCSI Detect... That is the first time I've seen that...

Did it BOOT with the default BIOS loaded or stop on a code The Post DeBug display will show CPU temp after Post completes

It stops on A2. Ok, that makes sense why I keep seeing 32, 33, 34, ect... After it stops on A2 it says CMOS Checksum error. It gives me an option to skip F1 or go to setup F12. Either options takes me to the BIOS.

A2 is what you will see if Bios has not been configured or you have cleared CMOS. A6 is what you will see while you are inside bios. Unless you have a master boot record on a drive associated with the motherboard you will not load into windows. It will keep booting into bios unless you have installed windows properly and your boot settings are set correctly. To me, it sounds like you are trying to use a hard drive that you have windows installed on from a previous system on this new motherboard and that is why you are confused. You will need to completely reformat and install windows on this new motherboard if that is the case.

Format if HDD before reinstall. You might have a ROOT virus. I believe for a SSD you need to do ONLY a Quick Format as SSD should never be Full Format.

+1 Only have the 1 drive attached when installing Windows -- Microsoft will span install file onto every HD it can access. If you later remove on of the additional drive -- Windows will fail to load. Glad to help get you sorted out
