The company announced on August 18 that it's making an "all-new PC gaming platform." A Facebook rep confirmed to Business Insider that the "platform" in question is a standalone PC application — like Steam — for accessing PC games. Presumably that will include a storefront, some form of chat/friends list, and maybe even game broadcasting. Not only is this stuff standard at this point — even on game consoles — but it's all stuff that Facebook already has: Messenger and Live solve the latter two needs, and Facebook continues to operate a digital storefront on the web.
http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-is-taking-on-valves-steam-2016-8 I doubt facebook will stop at just selling games, they will annoy us with Ads every chance they get on it's PC gaming platform.

Steam needs some serious competition, but I don't know if Facebook should be it considering how deplorable as a company they are to their users based upon politics.

Facebook is a bad fit. I only see them doing this as competition to the SteamVR ecosystem.

The bottom line is price. Facebook will have to provide better pricing or there is no reason for gamers to switch to them.

I'm already getting hammered with ads on Facebook even though I have my options set to prevent this activity. I can't wait to start getting spam for PC games.

I think it will take much more than pricing. It's going to take the same reason we have Origin and Uplay on our pc, exclusivity. That's the real 800 lbs gorilla they have to take on.
W7 Pro 64, MSI X99A Godlike , I7-6850K, EVGA GTX 1080 Ti, G.Skill DDR4 3200MHz 32GB, Samsung 960 EVO 1TB M.2 and 850 EVO 1TB SATA, WD Velociraptor 1TB, Corsair AX1200W, Acer Predator X34 and Oculus.

It's also why the Rift is having problems selling compared to the VIVE. Steam has the ecosystem in place, Facebook doesn't. Oculus Play client is a joke compared to Steam client.

Yah, I was really disappointed with that move. In the case of Pcars sold on Oculus Play, the on-line game play network is not the same, and sense 99% of the players are on the Steam network for the game, there is no one to play with online. Of course the consumer is not made aware of this when they buy the game. Facebook should just focus on their social dreams with VR and let Rift develop in the PC gaming sector on it's own. They make a quality product, so why not do something that helps vr game development as a whole instead of going to war with Steam and frustrating customers as well as developers. It's like you say Brad, their not in a position to do this, at least not now, their getting the cart before the horse I think and it's not helping VR.

The Rift is 99% SteamVR enabled right now anyways. When the Touch comes out in Q3, just play SteamVR roomscale games.

Facebook will have to beat greenmangaming, gog, cdkeys.com and many others. I don't think FB is going to be selling new games before release for 25-40 dollars that have a 60-100 dollar MSRP by other retailers and etailers.
