From day one, this RMA replacement, has had issues starting. Now all I had to do in the past was try three or four times and we are good. Now it is like 10 times or more. Keeping in mind I crunch 24/7 as much as possible, so it is not turned off often. But when I do, it is really frustrating to get going.

Whether I upgraded form W7 to W10 or upgrade parts (Like HDD's/SSD's) or the monthly "Cleaning". Just gets worse.

Tonight I ordered a 1080FTW and worry I will have the same issue or worse. Any ideas on what to look for to fix this? I did search, seems a lot of folks have different solutions for different issues.

I am pretty happy otherwise. It runs like a bandit and never crashes. Initially I was searching for a new EVGA board and just swap my 16GB of RAM and Intel® Core™ i7-3930K processor. But it seems they are all retired parts now...

Thanks!

Have you tried one of the other BIOS chips?  Maybe the one you're currently using has been corrupted.

Another quick and easy thing to try, replace the battery.  Probably not the issue, but one more thing to rule out.

Check your SATA Cables, if you have new ones on hand replace them.

Great thoughts! Thank you. I will try them all.

I already did the standard "Ram" trick (One stick per boot attempt in different slots) made no change.

Tried the CPU is "To tight or to loose" thoughts. No change.

SATA cables. always replace them with every HDD or SSD change. But I will do it for a test. You never know! Had not thought of that.

Also did not think of trying the different BIOS. Mainly because it goes C0 instantly or 15.

Makes no difference CPU wise or mount wise or RAM.

Most likely will try this weekend, once the 1080 FTW gets here.

I had serious boot issues with my X79 Dark(s) until I plugged in the auxiliary PCIE power connector that supplies extra power to the PCIE lanes. It just started happening one day out of the blue, and RMAing didn't help yet plugging in that extra power makes it boot the first time, every time.

Make sure you change your Bios Settings to support it.

Or maybe you did have this set in the Bios but did not have the Power Cable Connected to it.

Heh, only if clearing CMOS and/or setting optimal defaults set it to that. Took darn near 2 months to figure out that it (suddenly) was required to be connected.

Let the system run in the C0/15 state for 30 seconds then power down and restart. Should start right up then.

Have you replaced the CMOS battery?

Some folks with boot problems have solved their issues by replacing the CMOS battery.
