Hi All,

I am in the middle of picking the parts for my system and I have gotten to the dreaded step of choosing my RAM. I am looking at G.Skill 16 GB (2x8) kits. Of particular interest to me are the following:

F4-3000C14D-16GVK (14-14-14-34)
or (debating price point)
F4-3200C14D-16GVK (14-14-14-34)

They aren't on the compatibility list, but I don't expect the list to contain every possible RAM stick out there. Looking at what is on there, I observed that low latency sticks (CL13, 14) generally have slower clock speeds (2133, 2400 MHz) and higher latency sticks (CL15, 16, 17) generally have higher clock speeds (3000, 3200 MHz). This is generally the trend with RAM, but the stuff I am looking at appears the have the best of both worlds.

My main question is, given the trends in the compatibility table, is it likely that the Classified K would have trouble with high clock, low latency ram. I know that it is impossible to verify this without testing, but maybe someone else on here is using RAM with similar specs? It would be nice if EVGA published a list of incompatible RAM.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input Sgt Hoit and Arctucas. I think I'm going to buy the 3200 MHz 14CL set and hope for the best. I will report my findings back here.

As a final update to this post, I gave my setup a test run and the G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GVK (14-14-14-34) 16 GB kit works flawlessly. Detected and ran with XMP profile in both fw v1.01 and v1.03 after updating. Paired with 6700k processor in case that makes a difference for compatibility. Haven't attempted any overclocking yet.

I have the Trident Z variant of the same RAM, works fine. If you checked GSkill's QVL you would have seen that it was tested in the Z170 FTW, and any RAM that works on that is bound to work exactly the same on the Classified K.

Good point. I did see that the g.Skill QVL listed the FTW board, and it did give me a bit more confidence in my purchase. However with both boards having different firmware one can't always be sure, even if they are in the same series.
