I just got my gtx 1070 after waiting for pascal for over year and EVGA was definitely the best choice :D

I got a few question. First I thought the power limit could be set to 120% in the precision tool on a FTW but it only seems to go to 112%. I  "thought" that the extra power pin gave the ability to set the slider to 120% but maybe I have misunderstood something.

Also my GPU clock is 1949 MHZ which is over the standard boost clock of 17xx something so have I misunderstood something again? The precision tool is running default settings.

GPU boost 3.0 will cause the card to boost to higher clock at power and temp limits. 1080 cards do go to 120%, but 1070s might be capped lower.

Is that a dual BIOS card?  If so, you may need to try the other BIOS for a higher power target setting.  Otherwise, that could be the max setting.

EDIT:  I just checked.  The 1070 FTW is a dual BIOS card.  Switch to the other bios and reboot.  See what your power target is then...

How do you change to the second bios? as I can't find anything on how this is done.

Wouldn't it be nice if EVGA provided decent product manuals with their products?!?!  Notice how there are no 10xx series card manuals available here.

Well, here is a generic guide at least:
    http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59440

Ignore the statement "This option is only available on select GTX 760, 770, and 780 models." as that is totally incorrect and there are quite a few other newer cards which also have the Double BIOS feature.

On the 1080 FTW, the switch is next to the two 8-pin power connectors.

    edit

thanks, I will take a look. as it should be similar on the 1070 then.

but its a real pity that there is no mention of the switch anyway?

If you have a 1070 FTW, then yes, the double BIOS switch is in essentially the exact same location as the 1080 FTW.  If you have a model other than "FTW", no, you don't have Double BIOS and therefore have no switch.

should have said, I do have the FTW edition, and the switch is in the exact same area, and switched over, I can noow confirm that I can reach higher power levels with the second bios. but not planning on OC just yet. I'm just glad that I have this new card, and able to play Doom 2016 on ultra setting, and no slowdown!

    this is one sweet card!

just odd there is no mention of this switch, still, at least its easy to switch over.

Egg on my face.  This thread was about the 1070 FTW all along.  For some reason I read 1080 FTW in my head earlier.

well it may help someone else, but yeah, there aren't any 10XX manuals for the FTW edition, just the basic guides that cover all models, and no clue or guide to say where. but anyway, at least this does apply to both 1070 and 1080 models. and at least its also very easy to switch the bios, no need to remove the card or do any DIY on it to change it.

i see the switch and it states on the backplate "Master" and "Slave" as the settings of the switch. now i guess that would make sense for SLI reasons but not for the reasons of this post. do you know which one has the higher TDP and more aggressive fan curve?

Just an FYI,  I spoke with Gabriel at EVGA yesterday; I was having issues with Precision X OC 6.0.3 not allowing my 1070 FTW to go over 112% Power Target after switching to the secondary "Slave" bios on the card, he directed me to the "Beta"  Precision X OC 6.0.3."1" after uninstalling 6.0.3 and installing 6.0.3.1, powering down and restarting the PC, I'm happy to say my limit is now 122% on the Power target at with no extra voltage, Target set to 122%, K-boost on, and default Core & Memory clocks my card's auto clocks to 2076,  benched it at this on Catzilla HD achieved over 25000 at 1080P (Need to get a 4K monitor)!
Needless to say I'm ecstatic with my new EVGA 1070 FTW and I'm glad I didn't jump ship to MSI because some reviewers were stating that MSI was achieving better Clocks & Temps for the same price.

Keep up the great work EVGA & thank you Gabriel for the help yesterday!

Sounds nice. I find it hard to believe that the card can do 2076 without nogle additional voltage. Currently i dont trust the programs completely on how settings are applied. Maybe K-boost adds voltage without showing.

Prior to the switching over Bios & adding K-boost this card was boosting to 2019 at 112% power target.  Silicon Lottery winner I guess...

@laped83 I was shocked as well I figured they must have let a "reviewer card" slip through the assembly line even at that speed running Catzilla, Valley & Heaven I haven't had the card go over 70C.
Also,  I noticed that the Latest version of GPU-Z "doesn't support" the 1070 FTW, probably any other 10XX series card yet...  It won't even read ASIC.   I hope they get this resolved soon I cant wait to mod a Bios for it and see what it will really do!  :)

if you check with GPU Z, what is the bios version?
my bios version for slave is
86.04.1E.01.70  (note the .01) if yours is double zero, then you have two master bios, instead of master and slave. the slave bios does increase the voltage, (it does on mine) but the fans keep spinning, and can't be lowered below 20%.

I have uploaded my slave bios for the FTW edition,

    www.matthewfarmery.net/nvflash/nvflash_FTWrom.zip

also includes NVflash. I would read up on how to flash the bios, and make sure you do a backup just in case.

    hope that helps.

I have to pull the battery from the motherboard in order to switch BIOS. So thats working as intended.. or something.

Can barely do a 50Mhz core overclock (2012MHz core) so I have again lost the lottery :/
