Here's the specs:
  • mobo: EVGA x58 ftw3 (according to system info below)
    • BIOS Version/Date    Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 8/25/2011
      SMBIOS Version    2.5
  • cpu: Xeon x5670 2.6Ghz 6-core
  • cpu cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
  • ram: dual channel Corsair 16Gb DDR3-1866 (2 sticks in slots 1 and 3)
  • gpu: MSI Radeon R9 390 8Gb (sits in the top PCIe x16 slot closest to the cpu)
  • psu: EVGA 850 GQ 80+ GOLD
  • hdd: WD Blue 1TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache
  • case: Thermaltake SUPPRESSOR F31
  • optical: Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal
  • network card: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Combo PCI Adapter ()
The issue I'm having is having the network card installed into the PCIe x8 slot on the mobo caused the whole system to shut down seconds after attempting to start. (press power button, runs for few seconds, varies each time, and the shuts immediately back off)

I installed the card's drivers prior to installing in on the mobo but that did not help.

There should be more than enough power to run all the components (850 watts may even be a little overkill) so don't suspect the psu. The system runs fine and boots up fine without the network card installed so I know it have to involve the card being installed.

I know the card works due to trying it in a different computer to test. Unless I'm missing something I'm kinda at a loss for ideas at this point.  I've done everything from reseating the cpu and cooler, to checking all connections on the mobo itself to which I couldn't see anything visibly wrong with it.

ANY help, thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Have you tried this network card in multiple slots in the motherboards?

I have not yet due to there being only one available slot and I would have to remove my gpu because it blocks the rest of the slots.  I can try to do that to see if it at least boots up.
Would updating the BIOS to current () be a good place to start or is it already current?

I think your issue could be that your network card is a 1x pcie card and may not be compatible in a 4x, 8x, or 16x slot?  Not sure how the compatibility works on those cards.
