I just picked up an EVGA 112-CK-NF75-K1 motherboard from a local computer recycling center really inexpensively.

I have searched all over the evga.com and haven't found much info about the board. I did find a generalized manual [] in the support section that covers 3 boards utilizing the nForce 600 series [] chipset.

I have tested it with 1GB RAM (2x Hynix 512MB) that I had in a parts drawer and an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 [], and booted a Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit live session from a USB stick. DVI for video works great. Plugged in headphones and got sound. Hooked up Ethernet and got network. Basic needs of the board seem to work well.

I have other socket 775 CPUs in my parts drawers. One CPU I would like to put back into service is an Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9770 []. This one is 45nm, and from what I can tell, they were just being introduced as the nForce 600 series was being put out to the pasture for something newer and shinier. The notes I saw attached to the 1.6 BIOS update said "45nm preliminary support" but didn't include any specific tested/supported CPUs. I'm almost afraid to drop the QX9770 in to test it because I don't want to toast it. To this day, it's still not a cheap CPU. Does anyone know for fact if the QX9770 will work with this board?

The generic manual says:
Intel microprocessor: Intel Core 2 Extreme, Intel Core 2 Quad...
... but of course it doesn't have a list stating which ones.

I just want to know if I can use the QX9770 with this board. It would make a great multipurpose home media server.

edit: there were urls in the [] boxes pointing to info for that piece. i guess i am too new to post urls or something.

If you add a space after the 'http' part you should be able to post the inactive link. One of us can edit the space out and post your links for you.

I think there is only one nVidia chipset driver: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/30520/en-us
Unless someone has a modded version available this is the same one I used on my EVGA E173 750i SLI and my ASUS P5N-D.

I've got an old 780i FTW board that's still chugging along flawlessly.    It's actually been given to a buddy who needed a PC, but I recall simply using what drivers were available from nVidia and etc.

Both of my Socket 775 motheerboards are still fully functional and refuse to die. Too usefull to throw away and not worth selling because nobody wants to pay for them. I'm not sure if these mmotherboards are a blessing or a curse?

Sorry, Im over here laughing into my coffee at your stutter.

That 775 board has been a rock solid performer.   I consider them a blessing actually.  If I had another, I would probably build me an XP machine.

I've been thinking of using that ASUS P5N-D with my Q6600 CPU for a LINUX build so I can learn my way around a new OS. When Windows 7 support ends I want to be able to jump right into LINUX for all of my PCs since I hate Windows 10 with a passion.

I've resigned myself to Windows 10.    Just picked up a copy of Pro for my upcoming build.

There's just plain too much snooping and blloatware in this poorly planned piece of rubbish from the company that was once regarded as the best designer of Operating Systems. Owners shouldn't have to spend days or even weeks trying to get their OS stablle and functioning without being barraged with Warnings and Errors because they uninstalled or disabled the Windows Store or Cortana. Many governments are commpllaining and some are even banning Windows 10 users from accessing their servers with good reason. These are just bullying tactics by Microsoft and I refuse to be bullied.

Auh3156,   You should try Apple if you want bullying.  Microsoft is easy in comparison, heck, you can even make changes and buy software for someone besides MS.  Apple NOT!!!
