For Skylake, G.Skill Ripjaws V or Trident Z 2X8GB 3600MHz 16-16-16-36 1.35V is the best stuff right now. They use Samsung B-Die and generally OC to about 3800MHz 14-14-14-32 @ 1.45V on air I believe.

It's the code name for Intel's 6th generation cpu's (ex. i7-6700K, i5-6600K, ect.) which are what you use in the Z170 chipset motherboards.

2x8 is better - less stress on the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC), and also allows for upgrading in the future if necessary.

Nothing. The two kit's you linked are the exact same other than the heatsinks and names.

True, but also, socket 1151 (and other 11xx too) processors are dual channel, and socket 2011/2011v3 are quad channel. If you have an X99 a 4 DIMM kit will increase your memory bandwidth due to the fact that it has a quad channel memory controller. Since Z170 has a dual, you will not gain any performance from these processors. Also, in general I recommend using G Skill on our boards, I use them on mine, fast, inexpensive compared to some others, and it just works.

Out side of benchmarking, I've noticed ZERO difference when pushing DRAM speed. For DDR4, 3200-3600 is the sweet spot for price per GB. Past that it begins to get crazy expensive.

I believe that almost any of today's retail DDR4 kits from known vendors (2133mhz and up) will easily make +3200mhz 1,37v, CL17 or less. Maybe not the older Microns, or resource heavy 32gb/64gb kits and 16gb dimms..

To answer the original question: if possible, we recommend sticking to the Ram sticks and configurations that we have tested and verified work with the Z170 FTW motherboard, that board and our other boards have listed and tested kits linked here: http://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/

ok, sorry. this should have been in the overclocking section the vendors QLV memory lists are often as compatible as a turtle humpin a donkey.. dont forget to add a note in the QVL section to disable fastboot, people seem to have issues as it is even with the qualified kits+fastboot enabled with all do respect..

Realistically most kits should work just fine, I am sure most of the people on this tread are experienced enough to know how to get any DDR4 kit to work with the board. I just want to make sure that other customers are aware that the compatibility page exists.

No, it will certainly work. For dual channel, you need 2 sticks... But you have have 4 sticks, all 4 will work in dual channel with it's other memory pair. Kinda like 2 different pairs... God, hard to explain. Can someone save me? Either way, to answer your question. So long as you get a kit of 2 sticks or 4 sticks, dual channel will work so long as you use the correct slots. With 4 sticks, all are occupied so this is easy lol.

It should work my other board is dual channel and I have 4 sticks in it and it has worked fine for the past 3 or 4 years
