Sorry if this seems dumb. So reading the manual, it says VGA 1 is for the 6+2 pin. Does this mean the others just won't work? Or that those slots only have enough power for a single 6+2 pin connection? Does this mean I will have to hook up my 980 FTW with 2 separate cables in slot 1 and 2 or can I use VGA 3 or 4 which in the manual says to use the 6+2 pin + 6 pin? Are the different slots rated for different loads?

TL;DR - Do I need to run two of the modular cables to my GPU or just one?

Not sure why the worded it like that ??

Your GPU has a single rail for +12V --- this means all +12V loads are powered the same no matter where they connect.

So no worries - wire it as you like - as long as the different plugs fit.

Thanks for the reply, but not to understate my lack of knowledge about power, I don't quite get it. So can I hook up my 980 like shown in this picture? Because the plug that goes into the PSU itself is only 8 pin and I was under the impression that the max they could supply was 150w. My question is if just the one cable is enough, or should I just use two 6+2 individual cables and leave one of them with a 2 pin dangling. Haha, sorry if this seems so obvious but I am a software person, not hardware.

Always is better if you connect graphic card with two 6+2 pin.
On some graphic cards... reference example with 8+6 pin you can use single cable from single connector on PSU for 8 pin and other part of same cable for 6 pin but again I love to use two connectors on PSU for single graphic card.

    Your picture is not visible.

    The hardware side -

How many Amps the GPU will pull is limited by your OC, BIOS limits, and ultimately your cooling solution

The wire gauge (size) is the physical limit to how many Amps can be carried by a single cable.

That being said, most seem to prefer using two cables for high-end GPU power.

So if you have them, might as well use them.

Yep, thanks guys. Turns out one cable will work if the GPU is used at stock speeds/voltages, but I am going to use 2 cables because I only have one GPU anyway. No reason to use less cables when they would be in the box sitting there. Thanks.

    Off course install both cables.
On EVGA 850 G2 could be used three graphic cards or dual K|NGP|N cards.
I mean cables fit exactly for them, but most people use MAX SLI on 850W or 1KW for K|NGP|N graphics.
