Motherboard's sporting the latest BIOS and running Ubuntu server 14.04.3 LTS. I added a Highpoint USB3 adapter (1322A) in the 2nd PCIe-16 slot but the OS can't find it. I don't believe it requires power, that it's just there if I want to charge or power something over USB. But I did add power as part of the testing and it still can't find it. The nVidia USB controllers show up just fine.

I suppose I can pull it, put it in a Windows PC and see if it works there. But I'm wondering if it's something to do with the motherboard. The PCI device listing at POST doesn't seem to show the adapter. And no, I'm not sure it's supposed to and it does fly by rather quickly. LOL

Any hints/ideas?

Thanks!

Tried the adapter in an EVGA X58 SLI motherboard running dual boot of Win7-64 and Win10-64. No joy in either. Think the adapter's bad. We'll see what the mfr wants to do about it. Sucks when a $25 part stops a whole build.

Anyway, anyone have a 3rd-party USB adapter they know works in a 790i Ultra SLI?

    Thanks!

I picked up another adapter at Best Buy - the Insignia brand, IIRC. Works great right out of the box.

Trying to start the RMA process with the original adapter's mfr (Highpoint) and, predictably, finding it painful already. Otherwise, this thread can be closed.

    Thanks!
