Getting tired of fighting this problem . Bought a 980ti SC and it can't max out BL2 w/PhysX on high , so I added a 760 . Any time I get heavy particle usage with PhysX on high the game will freeze up and then crash the pc . Set PhysX on med or low , no problem (except for Opportunity) . Was playing last night , just entered the Beatdown & started fighting . When one of the enemy use an explosive shotgun the fps tanks , gpu memory goes nuts & freeze up & crash followed . The screens went black , then the far left one had colored lines in a bar appear at the top of it . The 980ti's fans went nuts at the same time also & were screaming (maybe coil wine ?) . Ctrl-alt-del out was no help either . rebooted pc & it was sluggish as heck , having a NVidia driver crash in system viewer . When looking in the event viewer nvlddmkm is showing up way too many times (count is over 9,000) . Before last night's latest episode I downloaded the DX9 final & reran it (was missing some files) . Then cleared out the driver & files and did a clean install of 355.82 driver . Didn't help . I only get the hard crashes in BL2 , none in my other games . But I do get nvlddmkm in the event viewer when playing other games . What the heck is going on here ?

    Hello,

the issue you are experiencing may be due to an unstable overclock. Can you please go into the nvidia control panel and open the "help" tab at the top. You should see an option for "debug mode" please enable that and try playing borderlands 2 again. If you do not crash then it is likely the overclock causing the issue and in that case you should contact EVGA 24/7 support at 888-8810-3842 for warranty options.

I'll try it a little later . I just got of some solo BL2 play w/PhysX at medium . Had 15 instances of nvlddmkm in the event viewer while playing .

Ok , tried it in debug mode with PhysX on high , no issues running . However I am still getting the instances of nvlddmkm in event viewer (16 in last hour) . Guess it's RMA time , crap...

Talked to Lee in tech support , he doesn't think it needs an rma . He tells me to "ignore the TDR instances" .  Blames everything on the game (partially correct , still shouldn't crash the pc) . I tried playing again w/PhysX on high but moved the PhysX load to the 980ti , no crash or TDRs ! Now when I switch back to using the 760 the TDRs and crashing returns . Curious when the crash happens on the Logitech keyboard display it's the 760 that has the issues only . Temp goes to zero and it's fan goes wide open . I also tried 3 of the Arkham titles on just the 980ti (AC , origins & AK) and they played it fine , except for AK . Minimum fps were a little lower & I noticed when driving the batmobile the center screen would tear occasionally (too much even for it maybe ? ) . Guess I'll just run PhysX on the 980ti when playing BL2 from now on (and test the 760 by itself) . Why do I always get the weird problems ??

The nvlddmkm error in event viewer sounds like a driver issue. Have you tested all available gpu drivers to see if one might correct the errors being logged inside the windows event viewer?

I've uninstalled the driver & used DDU & reinstalled 355.52 . Seems to work best with the Surround setup . I'm about ready to dump it and move on to a single higher resolution monitor (1440 at least ) larger than 23" of course . Wife suggested I spend the money on her , I told her that was a poor return on my investment . I woke up on the floor again.... But seriously , lack of sli and multi-monitor support is getting to be a big headache with no end in site . MGSV , shows 5760x1080 in graphics but only gives you a single monitor to use . Arkham Knight gave up trying to get sli to work and other AAA titles dropping w/no sli support .

I still think most of my problem is NVidia's drivers gimping older cards causing the 760 to crash . That's been happening since the AGP card days , just worse now . Forcing the GameWorks on titles & in the drivers really screws the pooch to older cards . Maybe I should rob a 960 from my other rig & put the 760 in it . After I get a new monitor , of course !

Well I ordered a 4k monitor , it should be here on Monday . I'll play with the drivers then .  I played some bl2 tonite , had no crashing w/physx on medium , just low fps when the particles start flying . Still seems strange for it to drop that low (mid to low30 fps) . Also still getting alot of driver errors in the event viewer . Just gotta wait until Monday . Going to be a  looong wait !

Ok , so I decided to play with the drivers before my new monitor arrives . I uninstalled 355.82 w/ DDU and installed 359.00 driver . All my event errors are now gone & haven't had any crashes w/PhysX on high ! Hurray for me  ! I'll use this driver on my 960 sli rig when I move the surround to it tomorrow .
Edit : the 359.00 driver causes Arkham Knight to crash my system . So I guess I have to play the driver swap game depending on the game I want to play...just great

Better than not being able to play at all.

Yea , right now I'll rock my BL2 until the new monitor comes in . Then I guess I'll have to change all my in-game settings to 1920x1080 in all my games before installing that bad boy . Fingers crossed ! After Knight crashed it filled up my event viewer again (as expected) . It still is the 760 that does the crashing , when the driver recovers it disappears from the Corsair panel . The fan also goes into overdrive on it too . I wish NVidia would just quit nerfing their older products , geezers ...

Driver 361.75 seems to have took care of it (finally) . But now I have a single monitor on it (4k to boot) . Oh well , time to test it on my other rig .

Yea , I ran into another issue . I had to send my new 4k monitor back today ! Only had it 2 days...... Wouldn't always respond to the power switch & would lose video when running a long benchmark or come out of display sleep . Only way to get it back was reboot or pull the hdmi cable & reinstall . Fortunately Monoprice made the RMA painless . Once they saw it was shipped back w/their prepaid label they started shipping me a replacement . They said I should have it by Friday . Now the waiting begins , again ...

Aye, 4K from Monoprice?... I think that's one of your problems hehe. Glad everything else worked out for you! Arkham Knight is so touchy.
