This is happening to me. I just dropped in a 975 and it shows dual channel in cpuz or eleet. but 12 gigs if their but in bios it shows 8.
 
I know we are in a new age but wow.

Okay  but you gave pretty much zero details on your system for us to work with on a 5 year old thread. Did you try reseating the CPU? Are any pins bent in the socket? Are you overclocking anything? What size memory sticks are you using? Have you tried upping the CPU VTT voltage?

System is an I7 975 EE. 12 Corsair 8.8.8.24.2T, 2x 970GTX SLI. overclocked to 4GHZ 166x24.
 
had an I7 920 before but never payed attention . and no pins are messed up also if so their would be
 
screen or post. so its weird to say, it could be the cards in SLI being 4 gigs each? who knows. but a lot
 
of people used to have this issue. and it says 12 gigs in CPU-ID dual channel.

Actually, the system can boot with damaged pins on the CPU and memory is a common issue with a CPU that isn't seated correctly as the memory controller in integrated with the CPU. Did you do the most basic thing and see if it shows all memory at stock clocks? Second, did you try setting the memory timing to 9-9-9-24 2T? Third, did you set memory low gap to 3GB?

I been through it all. I checked ram settings and low gap setting. also did the xmp settings. it shows 12 gigs in apps but 8 usable.
