Manual says slots 1 and 3 are the primary slots, but sticker on the mother board says 2 and 4 are the primary slots. So which is it?

    Welcome to the forums!

The sticker on the board is correct. If you're using one stick, put it in slot 2. If you're using two, then slots 2 and 4.

Thank you, I followed the instructions on the sticker initially, but then read the manual and was confused. I guess the manual needs some editing?
    Anyway thanks again!

hi, I talked to a service rep via chat, and he told me to use slot 1 and 3...
the manual says to use 2 and 4, which wouldn't boot, and the online version of the same manual says to use 1 and 3.
I have the computer booting with 1 and 3, and I am confused after reading this hahaha.
so am I wrong to use 1 and 3? will I gain performance using 2 and 4?
    thanks!

If it won't boot using 2 and 4, you are definitely not gaining performance... just saying, lol.

Stick to 1 and 3. It may be a small typo in some of the manuals.

Typically start with the odd numbers on EVGA boards.

yeah I followed manual said 1 and 3 clearly the simple sticker says populate 2 and 4 been getting stutter in BF4 not liking it maybe this will work I don't how i missed it omg lol I've always populated and used slots 1 and 3 on evga boards.

Everything's been triple checked till I saw this thread and wiring it all good everything is new and test in prime. I just have bumped to 4.6 on air 26C idle temps on board/bios and a little HWnfo but its not a perfect tool but the best i have seen beating the temps out to exact specs on EVGA z170 OC video on water @40=C lol

Manual said slots 1 and 3 which I build and populated with no issues booting the problem was Windows 7 ughhh, have to enable win7 in bios then use legacy mode.

I still cannot find a legit win 8.1 key as me and 1 of the top tech tiers talked about how he bought his for $30 off of google my searches are not showing any trust worthy sites or prices near that, checked amazon and ebay too.

There is some asian company selling for 30 but they say the key only is good for 1 motherboard? huh

Back on topic I switched out to dimms 2 and 4 booted right up fine, run memtest check memory to be sure.

I just built this rig and am getting stutter in bf4 in lots of situations and should have no issues at all everythings been check 10x over noda. Ran prime95 hard yesterday on 4.4 OC passed everything memory passes everything as well set to xmp profile 1 @ 3200mhz DDr4 ripjaws

I'm of the FTW z170 though shouldn't make a difference.

EDITED 2/13 | I played some after the post and modules were in dimm's 2 and 4 was better gameplay just by feel.

Overnight long night got me a digital Win8.1 pro key finally got the legit iso from win8 mediacreationtool "trick to this maybe should be a thread because there is not much info on google search" but 15x fail I just figured it out myself through it but got it fine on 16th try lol.

Installed everything did updates really liking this after disabling the tracking crap on the OS and getting rid of a few apps very pleased with it, so win 8.1 will be last upgrade until their forced. I stick to desktop not a app or tile fan.

    - Less Memory usage
    - Cooler idle temps "I'm on air see build" 23-26C idle 46-50C max in BF4
    - Stutter is also gone as well as crackling sound in audio
    - Not a increase in frame rates but smoother play. Need more time.
    - No more "forcing" Bio's to enable windows 7 or legacy mode which had to be ran for windows 7 to work right.
    - Win7 is disabled and running in UEFI mode now.
