Hello

So recently i encountered that my pc would just go into a black screen after playing some more demanding games.
I have tried most of the conventional things to determin if something is faulty. Did all the ram, cpu and gpu stress tests.
Everything ran smoothly except for the heaven benchmark witch resulted in the same black screen.
It does not happen when I m grinding for 10+ hours on Lol.

i7 4770k no overclocking
16gb ddr3 ram
EVGA GTX 780 Ti SuperClocked w/ ACX Cooler 3 GB
1200w silent pro cooler master psu

I am at a loss what i could be.

    Check your Volts and Temps

    Are Volts stable ?

    What are your CPU Temps?

    GPU Temps ?

    Room / ambient Temp?

Cleaned your PC recently ?  Dust can clog coolers

what are stable volts? i didnt tinker with any settings since purchace.
the cpu does not go over 60 when crashing
gpu stays st 74 and a second before crashing goes to 78
room is max 20 and yes i cleaned it today even tough there was not much dust to begin with.

I am wondering if my psu might be failing since i bought it a good 6-7 years ago.

Yes, if your +12V 3.3V & 5V are not stable you will have issues  --- aka PSU is failing

Look at Min & Max Values in my sample below.  The Voltage is not perfect, but it is stable

If you're using driver version 361.75 you may want to run DDU  in Safe mode and then install 361.43 instead; some systems don't always work correctly with every driver.

So these are my numbers. I have no idea if it is good or not.
Tried the DDU revert and still the same.
If I don't find the problem what is most likely to be broken in this instance so I can buy a new piece to try out.

Either the VCORE voltage is being reported incorrectly or you have a serious CPU or mobo problem. I'd check the voltage in your BIOS, but it should be around 1.0-1.2, not less than .05.

I have not even the slightest idea how to do that. So what you are saying if i get a new mobo and cpu that are compatible i should be good?

Bios &/ or check with Speccy (free for home use)

    http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Make sure to set your RAM to the Mfg specification in your BIOS. (DRAM 1.488 seems odd)

The volts in my sample, for the RAM is due to slight over-volt for the OC on this PC (DRAM 1.66V)

With power disconnected to the PSU: (cause the MB still gets power with the PC in OFF mode) Ground yourself

    1) Confirm GPU PCIe power cords are fully seated, re-seat them
    2) Confirm GPU is fully seated in PCIe slot and not sagging, properly held with mounting screw

Are you OC any part of your system?

I'm not ready to have you go that far yet. As I mentioned, voltage monitors aren't always accurate. If you go into the BIOS there should be an option somewhere called either H/W Monitor or PC Health; this should list your voltages. It should be above .9 and below about 1.4. Another option would be downloading MSI Control Center; this may give you more accurate voltage readings.

the vcore is only at that value idle. If i stress it it with cpuz it stays stable at 1.140 v
If i look at it when under load from a game it fluxuates between 0.400v to 0.700v

I have enabled some of the auto voltages for the cpu in bios and the chreshes have gone from 5 min in to 15 min in. It seems that the overclocking feature of the mobo is causing the low voltage.

Use DDU to clean out your old graphics drivers then install driver 347.88. See if that makes a difference.

    +1
    (edit added commentary)
I agree, that sometimes graphics drivers cause instability.  New ones because of bugs and old ones because they left residuals in the registry that just confuse the OS.  Clean install is always a good start and DDU works.  (Or simply +1)

So I used the event log to see what was going wrong.
And I see 2 times display 4101 warnings and one display 4115 warning.
These are during the black screen period

Your card is grayed out where? Try running the card in debug mode to see if it helps fix your problem...

After hours of psu testing i have found that one of the connectors couldnt reach peak preformance. I guess 6 years was a good run.
Bought a new psu and it seems to be fine now.

It's good to hear you found the problem and got things fixed up. My PSU is almost three years old. Maybe it's time for me to keep an eye on it before I start getting weird problems.

PSU do not last forever; why I wanted you to look at stability of the Volts.

    Unstable volts = unstable PC

Glad running with a new PSU solved it for you.

    enjoy your PC

yeah guess stability for 2 hours and came back :/ atleast the display error is gone.
The checklist is long and I'll just keep crossing off. Next stage better cooling.
I recently switched to a cooler master silencio 352 so the air flow might not be as good as before.

TIM does not last forever either.

If your PC coolers are clean and temps are up , it may be time for some new TIM.

Arctic MX-4 has been my standard - no cure time - does not seem to dry out - great thermal properties.

ACX cooled GPU does need great airflow through the case to remove the heat it can dump.

So it appears that after my faulty psu everything else is good.
The reason for the black screens is from driver crashes. I've done some searching and s lot of people are having these problems.
So either i have to revert my OS to something older than windows 10 or wait for them to patch.

Doesn't look like a fun prospect.

Did you ever update your DX files after installing Windows 10? Most games will install the files that they need but there are a bunch of DX files not included in Windows 10.

Lots of complaints about Black Screen crashes with that game: http://steamcommunity.com/app/268500/discussions/0/412446292764202146/
A Google search will turn up lots of results. Just beware of anyone offering a 'patch' to download. These are usually viruses and will bork your PC. You may have to wait for the game developers to release a patch to resolve these issues. I don't play the game so I can't be of more help other than be careful about websites offering patches for download.
