Would it be worth stepping up to a Gtx 980 from a 970 ftw+? Just wondering how much extra I would have to pay. Thanks for your help in advance.

If you go to the step up page on your GPU, you can start a Step up to the GPU you want and it will tell you the price and all of that information. Then all you do is stop at the point of submitting the step up request. Also I honestly wouldn't go from the 970FTW+ to a 980. Yes your gaining some ground but not a ton. If your going to do it, you would be better off to make the jump to 980Ti.

The 980 really only has the advantage of the extra unlocked .5gb of full vram.

The 980ti would be the better option if yiu are interested in stepping up.

As ST mentioned, there isn't a huge jump in performance between the 980 and 970. You can see NVIDIA's performance chart HERE. I'd probably either stick with the 970 or go with a 980 Ti; that's a great card for the price.

I just jumped from a 960 SSC 4GB to the 980ti. If you google the benchmark charts you will see a significant difference between the two. The 970 FTW is not too far off of the reference and with the right set up overclocked could be a little closer to it. One of the charts I just looked at shows the 3 cards in about 3000 point intervals on base clocks for Fire Strike.
