Hey gang, After holding out a while , I am considering taking the plunge and upgrading to Windows 10. Still going to do more reading up on it, but am thinking I may go ahead and do it here before too much longer. My question is, I see there are Windows 10 chipset drivers listed here for the X79 Dark. I take it I will want to install those, which I will do, what I am curious about will having the 8.1 drivers installed now cause any conflict in updating initially to Windows 10? I plan on doing the update route rather than a clean install, prefer to save that agony for when I upgrade to a new motherboard. Thanks for any tips,

When I upgraded to Win 10, I did not change anything Microsoft installed as far as drivers. I had not given it any thought since everything was working. So now you got me thinking, should I look to see if the EVGA drivers are newer and install them???

They are likely the same then, though I guess the EVGA supplied ones could have a little difference to them. Perhaps an EVGA Tech might comment further on that...

I went ahead and installed the EVGA chip set drivers. So far, so good.

That's a good idea. Personally, I would install all the latest drivers for the board. Sometimes MS will install a driver just to make things work, but not always the latest.

It was the only one I saw dated 2015.

Yeah, in post #5 I should have said "verify" MS installed the latest drivers after a fresh OS install and update if needed. Sometimes they don't give you the latest one's.

MS sometimes are just the basic driver, no extras no enhancements, that said the one evga will have are just the stock manufactures drivers, they don't mod them at all. So for Intel drivers you can go to Intel and get the latest ones. Same with all the other drivers.

Thought I would report back I did the upgrade from 8.1 to 10 this past Saturday, everything went very smooth and is operating very well. Probably the smoothest Windows upgrade I have done.

My x79 Classified with the new updated bios had no issues with the upgrade. I checked the dates of the "important" drivers and they all seemed to be the up to date. Now that you have me thinking, I am going to head over to the support page and see if there is anything new and special for W10.

Just tired upgrading from 8.1 to 10. The install went great, but now its taking over 2 minutes for the PC to boot (sits at the black load screen with the little circle spinning). What the heck!!!! Booted with 8.1 in under 15 seconds.

There have been lots of problems with the upgrade version of Windows 10 for many different computer systems. I'd recommend a clean install.

Tried clean WIN 10 install as well, and it still boots for 2 minutes. WIN 8, I never had these issues.

Most 8.1 drivers I have found work fine with Windows 10. If 10 drivers are unavailable I just try 8.1.

Sounds like you have something loading causing an issue in your Windows 10 loading. On SSD it really should only take a few seconds. I would suggest doing a clean boot of Windows 10 with the bare minimum, and then add stuff back in one and a time till you hopefully find the culprit. How to clean boot Windows 10: http://social.technet.mic...oot-in-windows-10.aspx

It's at the black screen before Windows even loads. It just sits right after bios for 2 minutes before it finally allows me to login. I did a fresh install of windows 10 and it does it from the first boot. With WIN 8, I never had these issues, on the same hardware.

System boots fine in WIN 8.1 (15 seconds). WIN 10 takes forever (2+ minutes). I am back on WIN 8.1 for now.
