Hey guys

So I have a new build with the z170 stinger and had bought a 950 pro m.2 but its the wrong key.... I'd love to use an Intel 750 but I'm sure the m.2 to mini-sas won't work either

Is there any way to get the latter to work?

    Hello,

for the PCI SSD Intel 750 you would simply use the PCIE lane that is available on the motherboard.

for the Samsung m.2 950 pro you would need to get a PCI card m.2 interface.

The E key m.2 that comes with the Stinger cannot support any type of storage device besides perhaps an SD card. M.2 E key is generally used for wireless technologies such as bluetooth and wifi

I cant use the PCI-E slot because I'm using a GPU and talking about the 2.5" version with the mini-sas kits available.

    the 950 Pro is a m.2

Yes I understand, I was explaining that you would need a m.2 PCI card as the E-key that is available on the board cannot support the interface of the 950 pro.

As it stands now, if you are using a graphics card you will be unable to use the intel 750 or the samsung 950 pro.

+1 time to rethink the build parameters

holy you know what. came here to ask about the M.2 slot as well. who thought this was a good idea? everyone else built the wifi chip into the board itself and made the M.2 slot usable with storage. and for less money....

looks like i dodged a bullet ($200+ canon ball?) there since newegg stopped taking returns for pretty much everything. definitely skipping this board and going with MSI.

All of this is why you need to do your homework.

Read reviews and the manufacture specifications before making a purchase.

Unfortunately there was no room on the board to fit a full-length M.2 Key M. The Key E that's on the board is already using a riser that sets the card perpendicular to the board; I wouldn't want to have a full Key M in the same place.

You need to redesign the board. Almost all other mini-itx motherboard makers put the M.2 on the back of the motherboard. AsRock even put it on the front next to the CPU slot, and had room for a wifi card as well, on their mini-itx X99 board.

So, you simply have to take the cost to redesign it. I am assuming the reason you haven't done this long ago must have something to do with cost. But you also lose sales because of missing features. So make us happy, and deliver an updated version of the board (or a long wait for Kaby Lake board awaits...), where you add wifi and 2280 M.2 support. The wifi card should be put in conjunction with the i/o ports. With the otherwise great looking design and color themes, you would have a safe buy from me, and probably many others. I particularly liked the color theme and style of heatsinks on the Z97 board (just use black caps if possible).
