Here are my specs, first and foremost:

CPU: i5 4690k
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
MoBo: ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
             Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.D 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Superclocked ACX Video Card
PSU: SeaSonic M12II 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

I'm having odd troubles with my GTX 770. I'm rather inexperienced at these things, so I'm not sure what it could be. The only thing that's changed in the past three months was getting new RAM put into my system. 90% of the time, this thing runs great, but at least once a day I get a black screen and the GPU fan maxes out - there's no consistency as to why it happens. I could be playing games for hours and not a single crash, on the other hand, I can start up my PC and just opening Chrome or connecting/disconnecting an iPod can cause the GPU blackout/fan maxout. I'm a bit puzzled. All my drivers seem to be up to date.

Not old at all, or at least I don't think it is. Got it brand new about a year and a half ago.

    Welcome to the Forums!

See if the PSU is providing consistent power with the card installed. Go into your BIOS and look for the +12v reading, this is typically under 'PC Health Status', System Monitor, Hardware Monitor'. A healthy reading is between 11.4 - 12.6v, and stable. It should not fluctuate rapidly more than .05v.

    Thanks for the greeting!

The number stayed stable at 12.096 v, no fluctuation at all after observing for about 60 seconds.

Have you tried simply re-seating the card to the motherboard? Have you tried re-seating the pci-e power cables to the card & psu? Have you tried a different set of pci-e power cables to power the card? If not, try those things out to see if they make any difference.
