Hi everyone,

I bought a Evga GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 from amazon in January 2015. I have not been gaming on it much, recently i keep on having these random blackscreen where the only way to get out of it is to do a hard restart. When It blackscreens (monitor goes to powersaved mode) i can still here the in-game voices and game noise (i think that indicates windows did not crash)
It happens when i play on all the games such as witcher 3, Battlefield 4 etc.

Things i have done:
-booted in safemode uninstall Nvidia driver with DDUV96 and did a clean install of DRIVER 361.75 WHQL = still blackscreen
-done some reliability test ( AIDA 64) to phase out if its a cpu problem
-updated motherboard bios to latest version F7
-did memtest
-Down-clocked gpu core clock and memory clock to a stock GTX 970 using afterburner i.e core clock - 1050 = still blackscreen
-Tried clean install windows 7 64bit
-Tried to set powerlimit to 110% using afterburner = still blackscreen

BSOD 0x116 & 0x117 causes:

#1 Bad video driver or corrupt video driver.
#2 Defective video card.
#3 Insufficient power to GPU or defective PSU.

Suggestions:

#1 Try driver 347.88.
#2 Try re-seating the card.
#3 Try re-seating the power cables at both the gpu & psu.
#4 Test your psu...

PSU Testing: http://www.jonnyguru.com/...;ndfaq_id=28 (You will need a Digital Multimeter for testing your PSU. You want all three rails to be within ATX spec, ATX Specification: 12V: 11.40 to 12.60,  5V: 4.75 to 5.25,  3V: 3.135 to 3.465. If any of your rails hit the minimum spec I would replace the PSU with a new one.)

Back probing: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-protection-calculate-consumption,3066-6.html (Read Measuring Voltage)

HOW TO: Properly load your system when checking PSU voltages.
#1 Download & Install Prime95
#2 Download & Install Unigine Heaven 4.0.
#3 Open both Prime95 & Heaven 4.0 Run Small FFT test for Prime95. Run Heaven 4.0 @ max settings. Run both of these tests at the same time while checking voltages.

#5 Try a new psu. This will most likely fix your problem if your psu is old.

Similar problem.   I have an AsRock X97 Extreme4 mb,  4770K CPU,  1 gigs of memory (4 modules of 4 each)  I have two Evga GTX 790 ACX2.0 and the Power supply is a Thermaltake..

I get a BSOD ... noting "Video_TDR_Failure"   windows examines system and reboots without fixing problem.   I tried uninstalling drivers 361.43 via control panel and using DDU and tried driver 361.75 .......... no joy in mudville.   As soon as I go to either my web news sites or to BF4 ...  freeze up and bsod.

Also receive a note .......  something to do with driver windows .. failure...

The power supply is approximately 1000 watts?
I need to find the box if I can as ...  can not see anything from within the tower case.

I did not try testing the PSU but uninstalling the latest driver and install driver version 347.88 as suggested by Sajin did actually work for.

3 hours on battlefield 4 and no crashes at all. Thanks a lot Sajin
