Re:EVGA X58 Classified (E760/E761/E769) - S61J BIOS Released 2009/12/02 15:48:21 (permalink)
Well I said I have it enabled and set to 32 bit, but when set to 64 bit it makes me crash within 1 minute of LinX or Prime95 everytime.

So I guess the question we should be asking is, what is the difference between 32 bit HPET and 64 bit HPET?

Had the exact same problem as you compddd. I was perfectly stable @ 4.2 GHz on the previous bios w/ 20passes of LINx (all memory), and I crashed after a minute or so with this bios (124 error). Upped my VTT by 25 mv and it was again perfect. Oddly enough...

Ya turns out the 64 bit HPET wasn't causing me problems, it was because my Elpida based OCZ Blade RAM finally decided to start crapping out on me lol

This BIOS is unstable in games and benching on my system, intitally thought is was snappier (it may be) but started getting BSOD's that I attributed to other software /driver changes however reversing these did not help.  Re-intalling 61B and presto no more problems, as in none at all, reinstalled mods / drivers and still no problems.  Enabling and unenabling HPET did not help.  61B is great!

I only asked about the floppy drive because of the post above:  "USB FLOPPY Installation - Recommended installation method "

It's recomended because it's the simplest, no CD burning, no preping a thumb drive, no serching for dos to put on your drive, down load, change boot option, load defaults and go. a good usb floppy is about $30, my Iomega is external, so it's easly moved from PC to PC and works with the lap top, I also use it to back up documents.

Just as an update guys, my rock solid 4.45GHz is now unstable with this BIOS update. I am in the process of running LinX to find a stable overclock again. So far, I have had to increase both VTT and VCore with all other settings being the same.

I am VERY close to reverting back to an older BIOS because this one is turning out to be junk in regards to performance for my system.

Im still with E760S610, because of my OC settings... any other bios i have tried.. i need raise VTT and Vcore for the same OC settings!!!

I was expecting a newer bios, good in OC!!

Been running this BIOS for a few days and no issues so far, HPET set to 64-bit.

Can Jacob, Shamino or another tech look into this issue please?

http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=27158

Basically PCIE bandwidth isn't working as published according to the X58 FAQ.  I was under the impression the E760 would run:

PCIe1 x16 - Graphics
PCIe2 x1 - Sound/NIC
PCIe3 x16 - Graphics

But that's not the case.  With PCIE 2 populated with an x1 card of any type, it drops PCIe1 to x8 bandwidth.  Confirmation that this did work at some point or with a prior BIOS or if its just a bug would be great, thanks.

This BIOS causes problem on system shutdown.  How it happens:
1.  System/Windows goes into sleep mode.
2.  System/Windows wakes up from sleep mode fine, either by keyboard key or mouse movement.
3.  When attempts to shutdown the system, Windows prompts "Shutting down.." (something like that) and Windows shutdown successfully.  At this time, no video is feed to the monitor.  The case power on light indicator is 'OFF'.   However, the hardware is still operating i.e fans still spinning, water pumps still pumping.   The solution for now is to press and hold the power button for a few seconds to shut off the system.

Noob question here, would this latest update include all the older updates fixes? For instance, would S61J also correct what S61A-H fixed?

My OC went unstable after installing this BIOS too.  I installed it at the suggestion of tech support to fix a wake from S3 sleep problem when I ran my memory at 1855Ghx (Not OCed).   The new BIOS cured the wake problem, but my previously stable modest 3.4GHz overclock crashed my system the first time I started Windows.   I think they changed more than the listed here:)

When you flashed the new bios did you load defaults then manually set everything back or did you just load a saved profile?

Yes. I set the BIOS to default settings before the flash.  After the flash I loaded my stock-settings profile to test the wake from S3 problem.  That worked fine and the wake problem seems to have been fixed.  After that, I loaded my previously stable OC profile.  That's when windows crashed on start-up immediately after the "Starting Windows" message appears.  Since then I have tweaked it a bit.  Primarily, I lowered the memory freq. from 2:10 to 2:8 (Host freq is at 172).  Running stable again, but I would really like to get that memory back up closer to spec.

Re:EVGA X58 Classified (E760/E761/E769) - S61J BIOS Released 2010/01/08 12:41:20 (permalink)
Does this fix the prob of unstable fan voltage on the chassis and power fan headers?  This has been a prob since day one:   you set the fan speed to manual and enter a fixed percent.  You boot into windows or exit sleep mode and the voltage is unstable, it starts at a high value and gradually over time it decreases to a much lower value.  A loss of 40% of your fan speed is typical which makes these two headers useless.  This screw up exists through at least S61B, the last BIOS update I've tried.  Has this design flaw been fixed?

I think it was fixed, if I remember the change log correctly.  But it don't matter if you can't overclock.  That is assuming that's your intention.
