No matter what isle you are on gaming Green/Red if you do not have a Gsync/Freesync display you have no idea what you are missing get one! I have been gaming on the pc for about three decades. That wonderful tearing you just get used to ignoring it, turning on vsync. Well I got my first monitor with the Freesync tech in it and its just amazing. I am just blown away, that tearing is gone, no more vsync. I wish this tech existed a long long time ago. It makes a huge difference in any game you play, I thought it was just a gimmick until I said you know what screw it, jumping head first buying a freeysnc display. This is defiantly something that is worth investing in. Just be sure to buy the display for the gpu team you will be staying with. It is one of those things that you will not believe it/understand it until you see it with your own eyes.

A gsync monitor is on my list of wants. Do the free sync monitors work with Nvidia as well, or is proprietary?

Will they work right now? No. Can they work if nvidia wanted them to? Yes. Freesync is done though an open source method on the display, all it would take is nvidia allowing it in their drivers.

Agreed, when i picked up one of those Asus Rog Swift PG278Q LCDs when they released, i was ecstatic at what the g sync did for all my games. Everyone should be using one IMO.

+1. NVIDIA invested in creating their proprietary G-Sync technology. There is no technical reason NVIDIA cards cannot support FreeSync. AMD is freely sharing the information required to support FreeSync. The only thing is that NVIDIA would need to swallow its pride and give its users support for FreeSync.

Sorry but I don't waste my money on overly priced tech that's might not work with a majority of games out there. I love the monitor I currently own. Besides I don't invest in triple-A titles anymore so as such a Gsync monitor would just go to waste for me anyways.

All you need to do is make sure you force things like vsync off in games, set your refresh rate in windows, even putting frame limiters into play to keep you in the freesync/gsync ranges from min to max refresh rate and it works just fine. What games are you playing?

+1. My new monitor works great also without those technologies. And, I only paid $369 + tax (CDN).  I wasn't willing to fork out over $1000 for a G-Sync monitor, aside from the specs I required.

Eh I'm starting to go more towards indie titles now and as such I play very few of the triple-A stuff. Vsync has and will always do the job for me.

You just don't know what you are missing then even on the indy titles, the tearing we have come accustomed to with even vsync is a thing of the past once you see it with your own eyes you say how did I play so many games for so many years like that.

I love how people say freesync is free since amd isn't making any money off it like nvidia is. You still have to buy a freesync compatible monitor to use freesync.

Never said it was free of course you pay more there is hardware needed for it after all, does not pay for itself. Now the code for it is open source and free, so is the design but the display makers make it not amd. Now Gsync has the syncing tech but it has nvidia's proprietary none open source code and hardware in it, that cost about an extra 150-200 dollars for the Gsync tech in the display It allows for lower fps drops over freesyc.

I can't justify the overly high cost of a pc based monitor when I would rather put that money into a better HDTV or home audio solution. Heck I'd rather take that kind of money and invest it in things that would actually make a bigger difference than some silly Gsync\Freesync monitor.

Yeah that's the big thing especially on nvidia side, supposedly after April cost are supposed to come way down. If I didnt get my freesync 27" 144hz 1ms 1440p display at 350. Would had not even considered it honestly at a price point of 422-470 was too much in my book. I saw that 350 and jumped on it. My buddy got his 34" Gsync just over 1k normal price was $1900-2k... But he is loving it.

Value is in the eye of the one spending the $$$$

G-sync on My XB280HK Acer monitor with my 2-way SLI Titan X SC in 4K is worth every penny.

As far as what people are ready & willing to spend on the best tech, well that is why so many do not have custom water loops.

How fast can you afford to go ?  & What looks good to you ?  Are very subjective and part of any PC build.  Just my 2 cents

Spending the bug bucks (got a deal at $600) on the G-Sync (2) enabled Asus Rog Swift PG279Q was more than worth it. Coupled with the 980Ti SC2, for gaming it's made a bigger difference in play than SSD vs. mechanical HDs or more. I'm more than amazed and don't know why I didn't roll with G-Sync sooner. Can't talk to Freesync, although for those on Team Red, I hear it's equally as fantastic.

Only difference between gen 1 & gen 2 g-sync is gen 2 supports g-sync over hdmi up to 60Hz correct?

Spending the bug bucks (got a deal at $600) on the G-Sync (2) enabled Asus Rog Swift PG279Q was more than worth it. Coupled with the 980Ti SC2, for gaming it's made a bigger difference in play than SSD vs. mechanical HDs or more. I'm more than amazed and don't know why I didn't roll with G-Sync sooner. Can't talk to Freesync, although for those on Team Red, I hear it's equally as fantastic.

Seeing both, and now being on the red team its equally as awesome as when I saw the Gsync demo. Using the Digital Display port ftw!

Actually, I'm petty sure it only adds the HDMI capability. No G-Sync support over HDMI though.

I can't justify the overly high cost of a pc based monitor when I would rather put that money into a better HDTV or home audio solution. Heck I'd rather take that kind of money and invest it in things that would actually make a bigger difference than some silly Gsync\Freesync monitor.

It is like anything else, how much money do you want to spend on the hobby. I bought 2 titan x's, im pretty sure 99 % of people think im nuts for that alone... lol    But it is a game changer, especially if you have SLI, no more dredded SLI micro stutter !

Ive heard from many people that gsync/freesync is only noticeable around 40-60 fps. With most displays that sport this tech coming out with 144hz I dont see the point. There is currently only one UHD display with gsync

Gsync is worth every penny if you game.

I'll never go back. It is just that amazeballs.

It's noticeable whenever your framerate changes, as in you don't notice frame dips due to the image being smoothed out instead of being a choppy mess. Basically every single game you'll ever play will take advantage of it. It's basically vsync without refresh requirements, negative performance, and no input latency. It's not snake oil but rather something that should have been the standard for years now.

I just ponied up 2 weeks ago for my free sync monitor an Asus MG279Q it is absolutely the best gaming experience I've had. The graphics and game play is the smoothest best looking I've ever experienced. I liken it to the difference between cassettes and CD or VHS and DVD. I have several top of the line monitors BenQ Asus & Monoprice that I have gamed on non are better. I bought the 27" 2560x1440 4ms 144hz free sync (30-90hz) monitor for under $500 through New Egg Flash and that value is hard to beat. My CF 290x's handle BF4 with ease w/all Ultra setting while running a extended 2560x1440 desktop. I switched from the green team 2 years ago and no compelling reason to look back.

As someone with Freesync you do not get any real stuttering again unless you go below 30 FPS. Like my display's freesync range is 30-144, for old games this is great having that 144 max in the range why? Older games when you  lock in a low frame rate the gpu and drivers say ok time to downclock, In many old games this can result in poorer performance. So yes there is a a point to going up to 144.
There has to be more than one UHD gsync display... Acer, Asus, viewsonic I do believee to just name a few. Being an EVGA tech you might want to get yourself familiar with the new stuff even the important of a display able to go to even up to 144hz with the new tech.

lol, you're a funny guy donta1979. I can assure you there is only 1 current UHD gsync display and it is made by acer.

Yes very, I was wrong on the third company=) I think Acer has more than one if my memory serves me right, Yup they have three. I think the third company came to mind due to reading reviews on all the displays coming in April that will lower the cost of both freesync and g-sync displays. You're welcome buttercup always happy to amuse someone ;)
