So I built this computer about 2 months ago and it has been working fine. The 980ti hybrid i have in it usually idles on the desktop at about 40C. Today I woke up and played warthunder for about 20 minutes (not a very intensive game) when my fan goes ballistic. I check EVGA precisionX and it says the card is about 90C. I shutdown warthunder, drops to 65C and stays there. Restarted computer, boots into 65C. Downloaded a third party app, reports the same thing. Within seconds of launching a game the temp hits about 91C. This card has never before gone to that temp even after hours of playing. Whats odd is that the card doesn't feel hot. The fans are running full blast and neither of them seems to be putting out even close to high heat levels and the card feels cold. It looks like a bad sensor or something because this is just insane. Anyone know what I should do or who I can contact about this?

You should contact EVGA and / or RMA the card.

maybe the pump stopped working? Sucks but it happens...
RMA that card imo... but at least call eVGA.

If the pump stopped working the card would be forcing out very hot air.

Man, this is exactly why I stopped using AIO water coolers for anything (GPU or CPU) and will stick with big air. I had a pump that started to intermittently stop pumping on my fairly nice level CPU loop (BIG rad that had the pump as part of it, big tubes, but not super top of the line) which scared me back to big air. Temperatures are now a 1 to 2C higher than if I had an H110i (I didn't have this, but in the past I had a custom loop, an H100, and an H80 that all failed within 2 years), but even if I have a one of my low-speed, quiet fans fail I have two installed and a huge chunk of metal to dissipate the heat even without fans.

I am pretty sure there is a sensor issue. Both cards use the same base board. If the pump were stopping, the card would be hot. Neither the OP nor I are experiencing a hot card, just hot readings.

As others have stated I would contact EVGA. I am running a 980TI Hybrid and while typing this forum post the temperature is at 23C and while playing BF4 my temps stay at 40C.

running 2 gpu apps is not good. i ran precision and afterburner on my 780ti and temps went through the roof. un-install all gpu apps then re-install newest precision and check temps again.

I am confused as to where you saw that someone was running two GPU controllers at the same time?

Fair enough. I assumed (and perhaps incorrectly) that he meant something like GPU-Z for just monitoring temps and usage. That wouldn't have an effect. My system has done this a few times over the weekend again. I let it run at the higher temperature while gaming and after approximately five minutes it drops back down to my normal temps of 26° idle and 35° gaming. I can start the system several times in between and everything is fine, but when it does occur it a restart doesn't always fix it now as it did before. I did compare the air pushing out the back at 'normal' temps and when it states it is at 65° and/or 91° that expulsion temperature is not any different. It has to be a sensor issue, I think.

i got a download of precision from here 1 time that was just not right. i had to uninstall it and delete all evga files on hard drive and re-download precision again to get it to work right. you might want to try that.

Most likely the pump inside the GPU waterblock has failed. Time to RMA the card and get a new one.
