I am wondering if my older ASUS VG236H 120hz monitor would work ok with the newer 24" 144hz monitors? I would like to experience surround . Are there any issues running these together? Or would I be better off selling the original monitor? Would I have to run them all at 120hz for them to work properly together? 3d surround is not a priority. Thank you in advance for your opinions and information.

IMO both monitors would end up running at the speed of the slowest one.  That would be because you are probably using only one GPU or one set/SLI GPUs which would only have the same output speed.

You will have no problem.
I am using both ASUS VG236H @ 120Hz and ASUS PG278Q @ 144Hz at the same time.
