Question for those of you in the know. Which CPU would do better at crunching? The AMD FX6350 hex core? Or the Intel 4670k quad? Let me know, I've got to make a decision on the next day or two on some things.

I'm Intel all the way but have no scientific data one way or the other.

If it is a dedicated cruncher, follow the power draw. Intel tends to be the better purchase over most projects. Chips runs cooler, better hardware instruction sets, and uses less electricity in general.

If doing primegrid Intel (after socket 1366) has AVX, and that  chip (4670K) has FMA3 is another plus for primegrid.
The AMDs AVX does not work well for what ever reason.
WGD and other projects that do not use those chip instructions that AMD with 50% more cores will do as well.
Unless building a multi-socket AMD, at this point, newer Intel CPUs would be better.

I am working on building 2P AMD G34 24 cores for under 100$ board and CPUs.
I am also working on an Intel 8 core, 16 thread for around 300$ board and CPU.
    Will post up with results.

There is a computer parts recycler I have been in contact with and they are interested in what we do here.
They have a bunch of AMD server parts that want to move and once I see how things work out maybe we can get some parts at a reasonable price.
I did buy a board and their cust. service is top notch.
Know more over the next few days, I'll report back.

Please do post your results. There is an affordable intel hex w/hyperthread @ 3ghz that you can OC.
    I am curious too!

Alright that's what I needed to know. That's guys I appreciate it. I'm am interested in your findings as well Bill. Should be very interesting. Id be excited about adding some crunching power at an affordable cost.
