Just finished building a new Z97 Classified rig and I had to share my experience.
Every component was new except the case and the monitor, so I was half expecting a hiccup or two along the way. I put it together and it booted first time no problem, even the XMP settings were accepted and ran without issue. I'm just stoked how relatively painless this build was, so I had to share my joy, and thank EVGA for making quality products. I liked the placement of the motherboard USB3 port for the front case ports btw - much better.
Only two 'issues' with the entire build (if you can call them issues):
- the stock fans on the Corsair H105 were loud as hell.. immediately replaced them with a couple of Aerocool DS fans. Problem solved.
- the SATA ports number from bottom to top.. I was used to them being numbered from top to bottom from the X79 Dark. I swapped the cables around to satisfy my OCD. :)
Have not attempted to overclock yet, just finished the marathon Windows 7 pro updates, and now installing all my software etc.. Here's the components:
EVGA Z97 Classified motherboard
Intel i7-4790k
16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400MHz (4 x 4GB - model CMD16GX3M4A2400C10)
EVGA GTX-980Ti SC (with the Titan blower) - ASIC quality 76.3%
Corsair H105 CPU cooler
EVGA Supernova 850 P2 PSU (first time for years I have not used Corsair)
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD (primary SSD - o/s)
Corsair Carbide Air 540 case (white)
ASUS PB278Q 27" monitor (2560x1440)
Also have to mention the new case fans I tried..
"be quiet!" Silent Wings 2 - yes, the brand name is "be quiet!". These fans are the quietest case fans I've ever used - significantly quieter then even the Aerocool DS fans I was using previously. I wouldn't use them as radiator fans as they probably haven't got enough pressure, but for case fans they are amazing.
I'll update signature and ModsRigs in due course, but very happy with this rig, after a somewhat failed Z170 Stinger build (issues with Windows 7 compatibility with some drivers on that platform). This is my first non-SLI build for years, but the 980Ti SC is one powerful card, so don't think I really need a 2nd card at this stage... of course I may add another at some stage anyway.. *starts making Tim the Tool Man Taylor grunting noises*
Hope you're all enjoying the Thanksgiving break.
