That's normal, all Micro2 owners have their package temps around 10C higher than CPU temps.




Most if not all boards are like that.  You have CPU Package temp, Socket temp (LED Display on X99 MBs) and Core temps.  Usually the CPU package temp is lower than the CPU cores but the socket temp is higher than them all.

Most if not all boards are like that.  You have CPU Package temp, Socket temp (LED Display on X99 MBs) and Core temps.  Usually the CPU package temp is lower than the CPU cores but the socket temp is higher than them all.




Although I noticed last night that the package and core temps are only 2 degrees apart under load. And that all of my cores are only a couple of degrees apart. A welcome change from my old X58 chip which had a 10 degree split.
 
I'm really liking this board for overclock actually, although any changes in BCLK seem to tip it over, so I can only make big speed changes. 47 x 100 at 1.3V under load is pretty fine though, haha. Mustn't be greedy.

I just ordered a Micro 2. While waiting for it to arrive, may I know if there is a need to liquid cool the VRM and chipset?
 
How's the temp like for those with an infrared thermal gun?

Chipset and VRM cooling are mainly for aesthetics.  Don't really need to liquid cool them unless you're pushing extreme high OCs but as long as there's airflow going through you'll be fine.

Airflow inside my casing is regulated based on the motherboard temp, but I would also to minimize hot spots like these. Not really into benching and insane OC. Main objective for LC is to create a quiet and cool-running rig, which is able to ramp up in terms of performance as and when it is required. e.g. gaming and video editing.

Depending on your loop's configuration.  Chances are there's air flow going through.
 
I chose positive pressure because in my big case (900D), I use mostly intake and rear as exhaust because A. They're filtered so less dust and B. All the rads get fresh cooler ambient air and all gets naturally exhausted out the back with a single 120mm for assistance.  It really works out really well.  My temps did drop some when I did that as opposed to the Front, Bottom intake and Top, rear exhaust.  Both work but I like how I have it configured now.  I also believe it also depends on the type of case.

Liquid cooling them is unlikely unless you go through nateman_doo, who would make the blocks once he has enough people to justify a full batch (10 people minimum I think). 
 
Currently, I don't know of anyone else that makes waterblocks for any evga motherboard.  The VRM and Chipset will not get too hot if you are doing standard overclocking.

I've an almost identical airflow design for my existing rig, except that the intakes are unfiltered. After all, I'm using a highly perforated Lian Li V1000 casing. That said, bought a DEMCiflex filter and gonna seal all the holes for this X99 build. Can't stand the dusty interior anymore.

Looks like LCing VRM and chipset is unnecessary. Less thermal load for my 360mm and 240mm rads.

Am I correct in thinking that this EVGA motherboard will not work with EVGA's own 980 Ti Hybrid graphics card if placed in the top PCI-E slot, with the motherboard's I/O cover attached? That seems ridiculous.

Nope, not true. It works just fine. Simply push IO cover a little to the top when installing a GPU, that's all. It slides right in)

Thanks for the response Tem4ik, but why were other posters (SimonOcean and div033) not able to get it all to fit?  I thought the EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid uses an EK backplate?

I have one more question you might be able to help me with (🙈)...if I'm planning on installing a second 980 ti hybrid into the second PCI-E slot, won't the third PCI-E slot then be blocked off, so I won't be able to install a wireless NIC in there?

Also, if I'm using a 5930K CPU and two GPU's, would the m.2 slot still be full PCI-E 3.0 speed if I installed an SSD there?

What threw me off is when the setting is turned on but the slot is empty, a video card in the bottom slot drops to x4 but still works. There are three PCIe slots, all x16 physically. From top to bottom they run in a x16 / x16 / x8 lane configuration with the 40-lane 5930K and 5960X. With the 28-lane 5820K it’s a x16 / x8 / x4 config."

The m.2 slot shares it's lanes with the 3 PCI-E slot, I believe.  I'm a bit of a noob with this stuff but wouldn't x8 PCI-E 3.0 be the same as x16 PCI-E 2.0?  What I really want to know is, would you get the speed benefits of a PCI-E m.2 SSD (over a SATA SSD) if you're using two GPU's on the X99 Micro 2?

As long as there's some airflow, you should be fine and for a desktop user, you won't run them constantly like you would see in an enterprise environment.

I can say from experience my games loaded a bit faster than my SATA SSD.  As games get more detailed and heavier, they'll surely shine under M.2, me thinks, let alone in installations, scanning and transferring.

Yes all fans connected to motherboard run wide open Classified and Micro2. Even if you adjust in BIOS same thing. SMART is 100% and SpeedFan won't adjust them either. Just get a fan controller or a case with a controller and do them manually.  Gives you something to do. HA

All the fan headers on the Micro2 are PWM capable, it sounds like you're using 3-pin fans with the headers in PWM mode.
