Posting this on behalf of a friend,

He has a B-Stock/Refurbed GTX 780 Classified (03G-P4-3788-RX). Bought on September 3, received on the 9th and has been using it since then. See the linked pics for the problem.

It only happens when the monitor is turned off and then switched on. Refreshing the desktop via nVidia control panel and right click on desktop> refresh doesn't fix it. Screenshots obviously don't show the visual corruption.

Launching games (Grid Autosport, LoL, etc) results in the monitor going black and having an error box saying the monitor has no input. Restarting the system fixes the issue.

He says that he experienced this within the first week of having the card. but turning the monitor on - then off, fixed the problem. So he thought nothing off it */headdesk* and only now; when turning the monitor on/off no longer does anything - do I learn about it

My guess is that the GPU is dying. Launching a game places just enough stress on the card to kill it's output. He says that there were no issues with the monitor being driven by IGP. Only started after the 780 was installed. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is and if there are any tests to verify that the GPU is on the way out.

Try using a different cable to connect it. If he has dvi, use hdmi. It looks like the monitor is receiving the issue, not the video card. If it were happening all the time, maybe, but it is strange that it happens when you shut down and restart the monitor itself.

Maybe connect it to a TV and see if it continues to have the issue to help isolate if it is the gpu or just the monitor/cable.

I had the same thing happening, I would go into settings, select another resolution, then not accept them in the pop-up.  This kept my native resolution, and fixed the display problem.   A new video cable seemed to fix it permanently.

Merry belated Christmas and happy boxing day everyone! Thought I'd give an update.
He changed cables from DP to DVI and the problem did not appear during the two weeks he was using DVI over DP.

Over Christmas I had the chance to test his monitor out with my GPU (750 Ti) and his DP cable. The issue appeared on the second monitor restart/power on, looks like the cable may be defective.

Since Monoprice is the cable manufacturer and they have a lifetime cable warranty. He hopefully will have no issues with getting a replacement, will update in the future if he tests a replacement cable.
