Maybe if Microsoft would send out a DVD/USB OS Boot Device to everyone like what AOL did years back to get everyone to use AOL. This Boot Device work allow a one time Upgrade and then Mark the Boot Device and then allow a fresh OS install I would then move over to Windows 10 for the most part.

Well I tried all the suggestions, and nothing works. I'll just leave this as a Win 10 upgrade over my Win 7 install until Christmas time, where I'll just buy Windows 10 with some of my Christmas bonus money. Thanks for all the help.

After I did the Windows 10 upgrade I used this to get my activation code and then used it for a clean install: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
 

I can't do a clean install with a media creation tool disk.

 
Once you have done the "upgrade" version from your current OS, Microsoft activates your Windows 10 and as part of the upgrade then scans your hardware profile and keeps a record of it.
Sounds like your trying to input a "key" on your clean install, just SKIP inputting a key (its NOT needed) and install without one...
When you go to activate (after the install) Microsoft has your hardware profile and will match it up with the hardware profile taken during the "upgrade" and then activate just fine.
*As long as you did the "upgrade" first.... 
 
*Heads up: Microsoft has NOT been clear about just what hardware changes will cause a activation fail (once a hardware profile is taken) but should you run into a issue just use the Activation By Phone and you should be OK as long as you didnt change motherboards/CPU/NIC
 
** Or you could just wait a month or so. Microsoft has a update coming that will allow you to clean install Windows 10 using a "valid" registered key from a previous OS version 

I have limited experience with this since I only upgraded my main PC, Mab III, and didn't do a fresh install. I did do a Win 10 upgrade on my other PC, Budget Boy , copied the Win 10 key using Produkey and then did a fresh install on that one. I needed the Win 10 key to activate it after a fresh install using a CD I made using the Media Creation Tool. The fresh install prompted me for the activation key and did not auto-activate for me. I entered the Win 10 key I got from the upgrade and everything went fine and it activated for me.
As far as changing your motherboard in the future you can reactivate Windows using the telephone method the same as with Windows 7. I have successfully done this many times. Microsoft has never questioned me on it except to ask how many PCs this copy of Windows was installed on and the answer is always "One".

I recently changed a motherboard for a client about a week ago or so and it does not show a telephone method for re-activation (when the install was originally a Windows 10 Upgrade).  I too use Windows Key finders (WinKeyFinder), Magic Jellybean, etc. and on more than one occasion, it has failed saying the key was invalid upon re-activation during a complete clean install.  Hence, I performed the qualifying OS install, activate, Windows 10 Upgrade via disc without issue.

I'll just stick with this basic Win 10 upgrade until I buy Win 10 this Christmas. Thus saving myself any future hassles with this.

I just got a update for Windows 10 to download it. I pressed later I came back to find they had downloaded it and was ready to upgrade. I guess later doesn't mean later lol
