It is now possible for our team to sign up for this. Do we have any interest?
We sat out last year and I went over and pitched in with [H] for a bit.

Starts 12-1 and goes through 12-24.  Christmas Race

I would like to participate.  The Christmas Race is the first challenge that Crunching@EVGA entered as a team, and I'd like to continue the tradition.

I'm down. Wish I had the money to add some CPU power to my arsenal before then, but I don't think the kids would like me replacing their Christmas presents with CPU's for me lol.

    Okay, the majority concurs!
Seriously, with our 24/7 WCG crunchers always there and the hardcore folks getting ready to eat some turkey, and weigh in later I'll attempt to sign us up today. We should get back to it.

If I had a CPU worth running I would join you guys...unfortunately that is not the case.

How will participating in this impact the PrimeGrid Challange later in the month? I would be willing to participate, but want to do some Folding and the Challange.

Understand completely. I will tell you that I was running Outsmart Ebola tasks on a Pentium dual core running just 1 core without problems in the recent challenge.

Running the PPS Sieve tasks on your GPU will have 0 effect on this race. The project does not require an open core/cores to run. If you want to run the cpu tasks, that is a choice you'll have to make.
I will be all in on that one. My favorite PG Challenge project.

It is mine also, which is why I wanted to make sure there were no conflicts. Need to rebuild my OS on one rig, but I should have that done over the weekend so I can get my two main rig CPUs and my two laptops into the WCG project. I will still have my GPUs for the PG Challenge, may put a fourth GPU in my one rig just for the PG Challenge.

What do we need to do to sign up for the WCG event?

Yodap signed the team up, nothing else needs to be done. Just show up and crunch. I believe any validated points count for the team, so no need to wait until the 1st to pick up tasks. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

I'm glad I looked at the link in the OP again. I read the dates completely wrong the first time thinking that it was the week of Christmas at first. Almost screwed that up.

I believe you are correct but can't confirm because there is little info I can find on this. Hoping a better page is set up from WCG.
I will probably try a little "bunkering" but most of my resources are trying to hit 3 billion folding points for November. If anyone else wants to, just keep an eye on task deadlines if you start early.
I know this is a highly personal decision.

WCG does not do it like PG, so yes bunkering works and only work that credits during the challenge counts.

    Nice, kerryd!

I'm crunching only WCG now to get the pending validation tasks queued up, so hopefully I'm producing max points by the time the contest starts.

Does anyone know if Windows or Linux produces more points on the same hardware?  It's been a while since I had a choice, but I do now...

I can run a bare bones test on W7 and Linux Mint 17.2 sometime this weekend. I'm folding on Mint because I think I get a little higher ppd on the GTX-780.

I noticed that OET work has a quorum of 1, so we should use that to time things appropriately,  for example switching to OET near the end of the challenge.

In my very unscientific test, Outsmart Ebola tasks take 15-20 minutes less time than they do on W7. Same hardware, and conditions. (crunching 2/4 cores on c2q 8400 while folding on gtx-780)
Kind of surprising to me actually.

Thanks for testing!  This matches something I read saying Linux completed work faster than Windows.  However, at the same time, Linux got fewer points because the BOINC benchmark results were lower.  Can you compare the requested points?  Oh, and 20 minutes faster out of what total time?

Here's a snip of the W7 wu's. With 1:45 being the low, that was more like the high in Mint. Seem to recall 1:35 being a good average. I can't boot back into Mint until a folding wu finishes.
As for comparison of points, that will have to be tomorrow because these wu's are in the bunker. I should be able to identify them by machine id and pending once they are uploaded.

    Edit: Now Mint

I assume the challenge dates are in UTC?  Is there an easy way to follow the challenge points & standings besides waiting for WCG to update their page?
