Hello.

I've bought a new machine and can't get it to boot. The error code is 55 (memory not found). I've tried booting using 1 RAM stick, but I still get the same error. I've checked the CPU seat and there are no bent pins. I don't have any spare parts I can test with.

The memory I'm using is Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 4GB (Part Code: bls4g4d240fsa.8fadg). I don't see this part listed on the support page, but there are ones with very similar part codes. Could that be the problem?

    Dear Antilurker77,

    Welcome to the forums!

Can you please confirm that the memory is seating all the way into the slot?  I know it sounds simple, but sometimes this can be because the ram is not seating all the way into the slot and just a little more force downwards towards the motherboard can make it seat all the way.  Please double check this prior to moving forward.

Yeah, I heard it snap into place. I'm pretty sure it was seated properly.

Unfortunately if multiple sticks all give 55 post code in multiple slots then I would have to recommend trying memory that is listed on the supported list.  I am very sorry for any inconvenience.

Crucial says that RAM is compatible with your mobo, see Will it work with my system..But, you might need a BIOS update from EVGA for the stuff to work if your board has the original/an older BIOS..There have been some BIOS updates to improve memory compatibilty, improve CPU overclocking and various other bug fixes and enhancements..I know that don't help you at the moment because the board won't even boot..You could try clearing CMOS using the second method here, or find/borrow a stick that works so you can boot and flash the BIOS, or take it to a PC repair shop and see if they can flash it for you for a few bones..My guess is that once the BIOS is updated to the latest it will work, hopefully..Good luck.

Is there a way to tell what BIOS version I have?

    Didn't work :(

Also, is there and easier way to find the model names for the RAM cards? Googling the part numbers doesn't work for a lot of them.

Edit 2: Most of these part numbers are for 4-card kits. The 2-card kits have different part numbers (and aren't listed on the support page). Do I seriously need to shell out for a 4-card kit?

There's a clam shell you can open that contains the BIOS chip right below the 24-pin connector that might say on the chip what version it is, but don't take that as proof because an older/original version could have been flashed to a different version prior to shipping without changing the chip and info on it (if any)..Open it and see if it says anything on the chip..Only way to be positively sure is to get into BIOS or the OS.

Crucial lists their RAM, specs and compatibilty tool here..If you can't find any joy, get ahold of Crucial customer service/support for help.

Does the stuff after the dot matter? Because if so none of the part codes match.

If it doesn't matter, than theoretically I should be able to buy a single RAM stick(www[dot]crucial[dot]com/usa/en/ct4g4dfs8213), update the BIOS, then install my own RAM, correct? Or do I need to buy 2 sticks? On the support website it's listed as slots 2+4, so does that mean it's expecting two RAM cards?

I don't know exactly what Crucial part numbers/extensions mean, you'd have to search or call/email them..Maybe get ahold of Crucial and see if your exact part number of RAM is/has been tested compatible..According to your mobo manual, slot one is the primary slot and is required be populated (or your board most likely won't boot)..You can use only one stick, installed in slot one.

Okay, Crucial told me that the stuff after the number just signifies what kit they were sold in. I bought a card and am hoping for the best...

    Hi Antilurker77,

If you are continuing to have an error then please email me at chrisb@evga.com and include the registered serial number for your motherboard. Once I receive your email I can assist with having a BIOS chip with the latest BIOS version mailed to you to try and see if that helps?

Okay, even after installing the latest BIOS I can't get my old RAM to work. The machine loops through these error codes: 00 19 4C 31

What is the rated speed, timing and voltage (and revision/version number, if any) of both the RAM that works and the RAM that doesn't, as shown on the sticker attached to the modules?..Did you try different modules only installed in slot 1?..Also, what is the part number of the RAM that does work, and did you happen to ask Crucial if the RAM is in fact supposed to be compatible with your board?
