We were thinking about getting either a German Shepherd or a Siberian Husky this morning, About 2 hours after we finished discussing this, a friend posted that they needed a new house for this dog, It was his neighbors puppy and they couldn't keep him, All shots up to date, well groomed and potty trained.

I asked how much and they said free, So we went as soon as we could to pick him up and well, Meet 5-month old Alpha!

We took him for 3 separate walks, First my sister and my girlfriend, then myself, then my father and mother. He's really nice with the kids, Super hyper when he's off the leash and really calm when he's on the leash. As we passed more aggressive dogs that were barking at him, he would just look and keep walking, didn't even bark at them. I like that.

Previous owners kept him indoor because they had a small yard, But from what I can tell, He loves being outside, So tomorrow I'm getting started building him his own dog house and we're going to give him a large space for him to run around freely. Also trying to get a water station that refills itself, Like a reservoir of some sort.

I know the basics, But does anyone have any advice/tips? Anything is appreciated :).

Lots of play time/exercise. They are basically work dogs so they love to do things. Like a lab, the more you do with em the better. Shedding is not fun...Groomers needed lots lol. If I ever get a new dog it will be a husky.

He will be groomed twice a month, He will also be walked multiple times a day!

My parents go on afternoon walks all the time! I will also be walking him everyday after work. Next weekend I'm going to a canyon run with a couple of cars, I'm going to take him with me so he can enjoy the fresh air :)! he loves sticking his head out the car window and just feeling the air as any dog would lol!

I'll teach him those commands, He does stop on walks to try to chew on things, But if I call his name out, He leaves it alone, But I'll begin to say "Leave it" so he recognizes it!

I was already reading on things that are good for the husky to eat and bad things not to ever let him near! Will continue reading!

Great looking dog, get ready for hair everywhere! If you keep him groomed often it will help. Sounds like he has a nice home. Potty trained= BONUS! Hope he gives your family many years of love. :) Look into a monthly flea and tick prevention. Eventually you will have to take his manhood, when he matures...

Rush, please keep that dog indoors. I know how hot it's been in the L.A area (I work in Covina) and all of last week was 95+. Huskies get heat strokes very easily, my neighbors dog has seizures now because he accidentally left her outside for 3 hours on a 100F day and she had a heat stroke. Also, remember the 'palm rule'. If you can't put the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds, it's too hot for your dog to walk on it!

You may look into investing in a good liquid-cooling solution for your dog. I recommend one of these. The hybrid coolers are not recommended, as the thermal paste gets stuck in their fur. They also tend to try licking it off, which may make them ill.

Remember to talk to him just like you would to another person. You'll be surprised at how easily a Husky will pick up on speech and start talking back to you. Mine did and it was hilarious.

I love huskies, but too hyper for me.  Nothing quite like a fur factory the size of a black lab that could exhaust a jack russel terrier, by bouncing for 8 hours straight.....  One good option if you have the back yard space for it, I know people who did this for Malamutes (this a bulkier less hyper husky) and Great Ppyrenees in so cal area, if possible get some shade, and get them a kiddie pool.  They will of course be wet there, but it will work well for them, they cool off and usually like the water anyway.  Go to the clocking section, water dissipates heat better than air, works for PCs and for dogs  :)

Wow, really awesome puppy you have there. I once had a Malamute/Timber wolf cross. Give them shade, brush them, lots of water, and keep them off the hot pavement. Oh the hair!! You can now start your new dog hair sweater business!
