I'm thinking about picking up a 60" 4K HDTV strictly for PC gaming. Does anyone have any experience with 4K gaming on a PC and is it a noticeable difference between 1080p and 4K? I plan to sit about 6 feet away while gaming. Also would I have to run 2 GPU's in SLI to achieve a decent 4K gaming experience? Would it be beneficial at all to go with 4K with a TV of that size or should I just purchase another 1080p HDTV.

Even if I do purchase the 60" 4K and only go as high as 1440p resolution tops, would it be worth it? Would I actually notice a difference?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the EVGA forums. Unfortunately you won't be able to post links until you reach a certain post count so just post the make and model of the TV you're thinking of getting. I would make sure the TV has a Display Port input for the best quality but I'm not sure about how well a single GTX-970 will handle the 4k resolution.

Depends on the 4k TV (some sets may not support 4:4:4/60Hz/ or upscale 1080p content well, etc.), but if you're a competitive gamer playing mostly twitch shooters there's going to be some form of input lag you may not be happy with. I've been using a new Sammy 55" 4k that replaced a Sony 46" 1080p TV and unless I'm sitting about 5ft from the 55" I cannot make out major differences in detail from the two (so at 1440p, it may not look any better or even worse without proper scaling). I'm also running a single Titan X which has run everything on here just fine (Dying Light, Witcher 3, Mad Max, etc.) but not without some settings ticked down. So yea, that single 970 will struggle unless you SLI (and even then that VRAM could hold you back).

IMO, stay where you're at for a bit longer if you can (if you must purchase a TV for this reason) until 4k gets cheaper/better features and you can upgrade that card for something better down the road. Another 1080p TV at this point (unless your current is broken), just as 4k is becoming the "next thing" doesn't make sense. Of course, it always helps if you haven't done so already, to just take a trip to your local Best Buy and check out these TVs in person.

Thank you for your input. My current 50" Panasonic works wonderful. I just deem it too small as I sit 6 feet away when I PC game. I play a lot of MMO's which usually have small text associated with the games UI so a 60"-65" HDTV would suit me even better. Plus I just love huge screens! ;-)

    OK, here you go: http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M60-C3-60-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B00T63YMGK
I'm not sure about how well a GTX-970 will drive a 4k TV but it's worth a shot. Personally I can't justify the expense of a UHDTV for gaming but other members love their Ultra High Def 4k monitors. I only sit about 18" from my ASUS VG248QE 144 Hz monitor and it's doubtful my eyes would be able to see any difference. I like the higher 144 Hz refresh rate of my monitor that eliminates any input lag. I have played BF3 on my 1920x1080 HDTV and didn't have any problems with input lag but my GTX-680 will only give me 30 Hz refresh rate option in the nVidia control panel.

If you got your monitor to actually display 144fps on your 144hz monitor, then you are going to notice a huge difference when you are only getting maximum of 60fps on your 4k tv. Keep in mind, that most triple-A games will not run at 60 frames per second even with a single Titan X, you will probably be hovering in the 35 - 50 frames per second realm depending on what settings you have turned on. If all you want is a 30 frames per second 4k experience then pretty much any 4k TV will work.

After dropping a load of money on a 4k setup, I can give you my advice:

Look into running a factory overclocked 980 which you can get for a decent price. Get yourself a decently fast 144hz 1440p monitor and wait for the 1000-series(Pascal) from NVIDIA that launches next year. Right now 4k is possible, but it requires too much effort. If you try to go 4k with a single 970, you are going to be very disappointed. Before I upgraded to the Titan X Superclocked, I had a dual 970 SLI setup and it was barely able to handle 4k gaming.

    Specs
    Asus Z97-Pro Mobo
i7 4790k clocked at 4.7ghz using tower cooler
    32gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram
    EVGA Titan X SC
    240gb SSD
    PB287Q Monitor

4k gaming with a single 970, isnt viable even single 980tis and titans struggle with it....you would need at least sli 980s.
